This is what happens to me. [12 Oct 2008|10:13pm]

It seems there is always some indie flick out there for me to obsess over. It starts with a preview that I see at the $3 theatre by my house. Then I wait and wait and search and search to find said movie. Often, the release date gets bumped. Repeatedly, even. Often, the movie will be in theatres for only a week or two. Which always happens to be when I'm too busy to go. Despite my diligence, I am thwarted. Until one day when I can FINALLY rent the thing. (Often up to a year after the obsession started.)

Three notable examples of this are THE ADVENTURES OF SEBASTIAN COLE, THUMBSUCKER, CHARLIE BARTLETT, and now, IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS.

In the case of the last one, Dwayne and I were in the U-District a few weeks ago on a Tuesday. While walking past, I saw that the movie was playing right then. We were 30 minutes too late, and the next showing was too late in the evening because Dwayne had to get up early for work the next day. He had band rehearsal on Wednesday, so we couldn't go that night. Then I had to work on Thursday night. On Friday, it was already gone.

So, I missed it. In hindsight, I should have gone by myself to the Wednesday showing. But, you see, I had no way of knowing that it would be gone before the weekend. (The weekend listings aren't posted until Thursdays.)

Now I get to spend who knows how long, waiting for this movie to either a) show up at the $3 theatre (seems unlikely) or b) come out on DVD.

Sigh, sigh.
