A helpful stranger. [22 Jun 2008|08:10am]

On Friday, somewhere between getting off the bus and getting into the truck to drive home from the Park & Ride, my tiny dark green hemp wallet fell out of my purse. It contains my driver's license, a few debit cards, one credit card, one video rental card, my library card, my health insurance card, a few slips from forture cookies, a punch card (with eight out of ten punches!) for buy 10 soup combos - get one free, and my bus pass. There was no cash in it whatsoever.

So, of those things, the bus pass was what I was most upset to lose because it costs $50 to replace it. The driver's license was second because I do hate having to hang out at the DOL to get a new one.

I noticed the wallet's absence on Friday around 9 pm. when Lindsey and I were trying to purchase snacks in Ballard. I assumed it had fallen out in the car or had been left at home. But when I got home that night and searched EVERYWHERE, I couldn't find it. Then I searched the next morning. Still no sign of it. I checked my debit and credit balances to see if anyone was using it. That would give me a clue of whether I should keep looking. No one was using it.

Just as I was about to leave with Lindsey to hit the road in search of the missing wallet, I got a call from the clinic where I work (which also happens to be where I go for many of my health care needs). They had the wallet there! Someone found it either in one of the bus barn parking lots or on the sidewalk (I'll never know), and then delivered it three blocks away to the clinic! If they hadn't done that, I don't know how they could have found me. There weren't any phone numbers it it. Well, I suppose they could have mailed or delivered it to me since my address is on my license. That would have taken several days to get to me, and might have been a big hassle for them. Luckily, the clinic has all my information in their system, and were open on Saturday morning so I could rush over to get it before they closed.

What a relief! And what a nice person to return my wallet! And with everything still inside. Hooray!
