E-DITH! Boston newsman fired for protesting award given to O'Reilly - Boston Herald Comcast's CN8 told veteran TV journalist Barry Nolan to pack up and leave after he protested the decision by the Boston Emmy Awards to honor Bill O'Reilly. "I knew going in that there was serious risk that I'd lose my job," he says, "but nobody likes it when people tell them to stifle, not even Edith Bunker."
"Hillary has been trailing Barack Obama, but the one thing you have to love about Hillary, she is an optimist. She is nothing if not an optimist. She is the kind person that sees the pantsuit as half-full." --David Letterman
"And while in Louisville, Kentucky, they showed Hillary on the news at a mall, trying on three or four different pairs of reading glasses with the tags hanging down. Apparently, she's having trouble seeing the handwriting on the wall." --Jay Leno
"But don't discount this Hillary, because she's nothing if not shrewd, also. These people, they are professional politicians. Don't ever forget that. Don't ever forget that. Hillary has a back-up plan. First, nothing but superdelegates. Remember when we heard all about the superdelegates? ... Well, now she has another back-up plan to get to the White House. She's going to marry John McCain." --David Letterman
"Well, last night, the Democrats had their primaries in Oregon and Kentucky. Do you know what that means? Nothing. It doesn't mean anything. You know, this election is like a bad NBC show. You can't believe it's still on the air." --Jay Leno
"Actually, this is a tremendous victory for Hillary. Beause now that she's won Kentucky, of course, she can now move on to the Belmont Stakes." --Jay Leno
"Actually, did you hear Hillary's new campaign slogan? 'Hell, no, I won't go! Hell, no, I won't go!'" --Jay Leno
"And then John McCain unveiled his new slogan. 'Hey, you, get off my lawn!'" --Jay Leno
"Yesterday, Barack Obama visited the Crow Nation, where he was formally adopted into the tribe and given his own Indian name. His Indian name is 'One Who Helps People Throughout the Land.' Hillary Clinton also given an Indian name. 'Lady Who Doesn't Know it's Over.' And of course, John McCain was given an Indian name, 'Man who fought with Custer,' I believe. There is still a little animosity." --Jay Leno
"The White House has announced that next month, President Bush will be making a trip through Europe. He's gonna travel all through Europe, yeah. President Bush says he's really excited to go to Europe, because he's never seen a kangaroo." --Conan O'Brien
Boy, the way Glenn Miller played. Songs that made the Hit Parade. Guys like us, we had it made. Those were the days. Didn't need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight. Gee, our old LaSalle ran great. Those were the days. And you know who you were then. Girls were girls and men were men. Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again. People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent. Freaks were in a circus tent. Those were the days. Take a little Sunday spin, go to watch the Dodgers win. Have yourself a dandy day that cost you under a fin. Hair was short and skirts were long. Kate Smith really sold a song. I don't know just what went wrong. Those Were The Days. | | 12:59a |
Revisionist exercises A couple of classic ' dog-that-didn't-bark' clues that may offer some insight into the great split. 1) The role of the ultra-left sex-worker, Ema Corro, that aspired to leadership cadre positioning. A counter-revolutionary capitalist publishing sweatshop like the DSP could draw the line at diversification in either or both those new directions. 2) Revisionism seems to be term that they dare not name. Yet much of this split seems to reproduce the classic one of the second international. Without a thorough 'diversity-of-tactics' federated and informally networked structure its impossible for Jack or Jackette to serve two masters. The SPA are currently astride this barbed wire fence but they appear to have sacrificed their genitals to the cause and are overdue for a similar split themselves. All thats stopping them is a slight lack of critical mass. You can pose as a revolutionary or you can run for elected office. Its quite the bizarre spectacle to watch some political animal try both at once! Even Engels and Marx wavered toward the end of their lives and gave the sideways nod to Labor parties. While some of the revolutionists might feel they have a case to appeal to the consumer department or ACCC about the false advertising of the DSP maybe they should reflect on Lenin's ' State and Revolution'. The Boyle cabal are actually well within this Leninist tradition of ' running-for-office' with a raft of 'election promises' that they fully intended to junk all along. ' All power to the DSP soviets!' Lenin was a black belt in backstabbing and so this too is Boyles law. Ignorance is no excuse... even though you could always plead insanity. | | 2:39a |
The daily Lama Us Popes have to stick together Marvin Gandall wrote: > I made no mention of the decrepit Ottoman Empire, and it's clear it wasn't > the Ottomans that Marx and Engels had in mind in 1848 when they described > the brutal and contradictory social and economic changes being wrought by > the more dynamic imperial powers in the territories they occupied, notably > the British in India. Well, isn't this the point? Marx thought that Great Britain was playing a revolutionary role in India in those 1850s Tribune articles, in keeping with the formulae of the Communist Manifesto but 20 years later he wrote Danielson in Russia that Great Britain was only carrying out larceny there. There was a growing perception that colonial rule was *not* revolutionizing the means of production, but it took Bax and Luxemburg's polemics against Bernstein to reveal the full critique. I posted a link to my piece on Bernstein-Bax here and am planning to post something on Luxemburg and imperialism later today for the Intro to Marxism mailing list. I will post it here as well. ( Pope Proyect ) http://www.marxmail.org/msg41922.htmlQuickly applying Marxist formulation to Tibet then Pope Proyect aligns with reactionary religion and the CIA ...but as I said this is P2P or Pope to Pope communication...and its on the cleared Thetans list. | | 3:12a |
More years for the cockroach I should really thank the Cockroach Alex for leading me to Marxmail - you can find some interesting cockroach reading there. Take this for example... http://www.marxmail.org/msg41932.htmlA ripped article about Nicaragua that doesn't mention its coathanger Communism once. And as the Pope doesn't bring it up then it follows logically that women must not be included in the working class masses of this beloved-by-Proyect Sandalista land - the happiest kingdom of them all. Then there's this titbit from a right red-fascist shit - the well-poisoner Alan Woods http://www.marxist.com/may-1968-personal-memoir.htmSee where the Peronista Caudillo of Venezuela gets his ideas about us poor anarchists! But its not all doom and gloom though...that ' Ted Grant' who Alan thinks the sun shines out of is the same lying Leninist tool that was on the side of the tanks when Gorby got snatched by the KGB. Its good when the workers know whose NOT on their side isn't it. Keep em comin' Marxmail! | | 3:30a |
Carabina Cassin interview extract MY BIGGEST FALL WAS 40 METERS: I was in Grigna on the Dito Dones (Italian 6a+/5c/A0, or 5.9 A0/5.10c) with my dear friend Mario d’Oro, called “il Boga,” on a pretty hard pitch, when all of a sudden I yelled, “I am flying off the wall—catch me!” But Boga was too busy smoking a cigarette, and I flew off for an infinite time and smashed back into the wall. From that time on I never climbed with him again. We remained friends, but he would climb on the right side and I on the left. THREE WOMEN DETERMINED MY SUCCESSES IN LIFE—without them I would not have become the climber I am today. My mother, Emilia, would cook for me; my sister, Gina, would take care of the sporting-goods store for me to let me go climb with my friends on the weekends; and my wife, Irma, would sew my climbing outfits out of scratch: backpacks, crampon laces until 1 a.m. in the morning. COMPETITION ON THE ROUTE WAS NOT SOMETHING OF MY TIME—it was more the desire to invent something new, to find a solution to why somebody could climb up and someone else couldn’t. I never really had rivals, except time. I had to work Monday through Friday at a steel factory, so I could only climb on the weekends. I had no choice but to reach the top before dark, because I had to go back to work the next day. And there weren’t airplanes at the time, but trains, bicycles, and lots of walking. To get to Mont Blanc to climb the Grand Jorasses, I had to take a train to Pre Saint Didier, bike until Courmayeuer, and then walk to the Col du Gigante, do half of he Mer de Glace uphill until the Rifugio Leschaux, and then get to the Tavola [Plateau] of the Grand Jorasses and start the climb. So I was already warmed up to go up by then! THE MOUNTAIN IS A LIFE TEACHER, because it gives you the most fulfilling sensation you could possibly get from life and teaches you how to think without fearing. One who fears should not attempt to climb; nonetheless, you must have a little prudence when you climb. One without prudence is crazy...' - FROM http://www.climbing.com/community/perspective/riccardo_cassin-the_full_interview/index1.html | | 3:33a |

Only in heaven It would be trying the blog reader's patience too much to reiterate all the 'working class are not angels' statements purporting to refute that the working class could not run their own places of work. Horndog John really a latent Homo? '...A few months after the removal of precancerous growths and polyps from his face and colon, Senator McCain was forced to undergo a pair of painful pastorectemy procedures yesterday to cut out two malignant tumors which had threatened to cripple or even kill his presidential campaign.
"We had been urging the Senator to deal with this condition since March," said McCain lobbyist-campaign adviser Charlie Black, "but you know how stubborn he can be. Once he takes a position on something, he never ever changes it."
"Boy howdy, some of the things he called me when I tried to persuade him, I still have blisters on that side of my face," added lobbyist-campaign manager Rick Davis. "In the end, it took me and several other lobbyists to hold him down and drag him to the operating room. He's strong as a bull, you know. Incredibly virile. They had to send out for extra anesthesia from another hospital to knock him out, that's how strong he is."
Whooh! Hold it right there...' incredibly virile', colonic cancers! Obama assassinated Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Barack Obam...Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against the Black Osama.
"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.
Clinton made her comments at a meeting with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader's editorial board while campaigning in South Dakota, where she complained that, "People have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa."
Assassination politics is slow to gain traction but I'm glad to report that character assassination is alive and well. | | 1:33p |
Right behind Rush As anarchists and anti-authoritarians, the RNC Welcoming Committee lies in solidarity with Rush Limbaugh. While his focus on violent insurrection as praxis may be somewhat naive, we admire his youthful enthusiasm. Whether through acts of proletarian insurrection, as Mr. Limbaugh suggests, or other means, we too dream of a day when the American people awaken to the inherent evil of the Democrat Party and liberalism in general... so that we might finally overthrow the parasitic political class and compost our gardens with the corpses of their hate-mongering demagogues. As always, our friends in Denver organizing against the DNC have our dearest support. We can only hope to live up to their challenge against the interchangeable politicians, capitalists and pundit hacks descending upon OUR home town. http://rncwelcomingcommittee.org/ | | 1:38p |

Rape manual my arse By the 2000s, American anarchists had become infatuated with an approach to intellectual inquiry — reflected in the schools of thought known as platformism, deconstructionism, and cognitive relativism — as skeptical of our ability to know the world as cognitive psychology suggests we should be of our ability to know ourselves. Going far beyond historical materialism or 'facts', and leaning heavily on Marxist notions of cultural and class determinism, those in this revisionist movement came to believe that there is no privileged truth, no objective reality to be discovered, not even any belief, idea, hypothesis, or theory that is closer to the truth than any other. In time, the movement spilled out of Platformist cults into the history and philosophy of anarchism, as professional anarchist philosophers and historians, swept up in a paroxysm of postmodern anarchist narrative deconstruction, proffered a view of anarchism as a relativistic game played by European white males in a reductionistic frenzy of hermeneutical hegemony, hell-bent on suppressing the masses beneath the thumb of dialectical scientism and technocratic crypto-anarchy. Yes, some of them actually talk like that, and one really did call Bakunin's ' God and the State' a "rape manual." Why did anarchists fall for it? The hindsight bias and the confirmation bias. Once you believe that anarchism holds no privileged position in the search for truth, and that it is just another way of knowing, it is easy to pull out of any article like Mr. Flood additional evidence that supports your belief. It is a very human process, and since anarchism is conducted by very real humans, shouldn't it be subject to these same cognitive biases? Yes, except for one thing: the built-in defense known as the anarchist method. There is progress in anarchism, and some views really are superior to others, regardless of the color, class, gender, or country of origin of the anarch holding that view. Despite the fact that anarchist data is "theory laden," anarchism is truly different than art, music, religion, and other forms of human expression because it has a self-correcting mechanism built into it. If you don't catch the flaws in your theory, the slant in your bias, or the distortion in your preferences, someone else will, usually with great glee and in a public forum — for example, a competing journal! Anarchists may be biased, but anarchism itself, for all its flaws, is still the best system ever devised for understanding how the political world works. | | 3:09p |
Karl Blythe is a liar A Marxist and a liar... but I repeat myself. http://www.anarchistnews.org/?q=node/3869#commentsI only got half way through Submitted by anon on Fri, 2008-05-23 21:57. I only got half way through this before getting snagged on a couple of whoppers. These are typical Plat alternative histories and while the Platformist cult are perfectly entitled to their own opinions they are not entitled to their own facts. 1) Propaganda of the deed came in response to intolerable totalitarian opression that included regular massacres of workers and peasants. Everybody has the right to self-defense...and self defense is a defense against many charges of murder. Also PoD never really went away after the classic period where anarchists knocked off a president and several absolutist monarchs. PoD was used in Spain to defend the workers against Falangist murderers. It was even used after the Franco victory as may seen in the name of one Platformist(!) collective. The Sabate collective. All this nonsense about PoD seems designed to help all these 'recovering Marxists' all aboard the Trojan Horse of Platformism feel at home as PoD doctrine fits in with diversity-of-tactics but not with Marxism. 2) As if that wasn't bad enough then we have this howler ...'they rejected a specifically anarchist organization'...so what was the FAI Karl? Chopped liver? My Spanish is frightful but isn't that the ' Federation Anarchista Iberia? I have to repeat...youse are perfectly entitled to yr own opinions - you are not entitled to yr own facts. And the Marxist penchant for rewriting and air-brushing historical facts ( sear Holodomor and CHEKA April 1918 for example) I would caution all anarchists to be aware of these 'recovering Marxists' among us as they have the potential to cause a similar amount of damage as was done by their cousin ideological imperialists, the infamous and unholy neocons. ' Beware the jabberwock my son...' Forgot to sign this one - my bad. A couple more points about PoD though. Even as the yellow jingo press made huge attacks on it PoD survived and survives today - no thanks to stupid lying red-fascist fucks like this Karl Blythe moron. PoD was supported by widely respected democratic socialists such as Orwell and Camus. Assassination was recently studied by game theorists and given points for good outcomes in totalitarian situations. Finally anarchists like Jim Bell and John Filiss have both written good articles on PoD. Marxists would have it that we wait till the working class attain revolutionary consciousness - as if the bourgeois had that in the great revolution! - then and only then will any violence be approved by these nosebleeds. This is a recipe for pie-in-the-sky-when-yr-grandchildren-die. Helpless, hopeless, feckless fuckless fools. Anarchists have tolerance... but not unlimited tolerance. | | 3:21p |

We need him on that wall Yesterday Obama said this:
I respect Sen. John McCain's service to our country. He is one of those heroes of which I speak. But I can't understand why he would line up behind the president in his opposition to this GI bill. I can't believe why he believes it is too generous to our veterans. I could not disagree with him and the president more on this issue. There are many issues that lend themselves to partisan posturing, but giving our veterans the chance to go to college should not be one of them.
Wow, that was shockingly below the belt, don't you think? No? Well, McCain apparently did:
It is typical, but no less offensive that Senator Obama uses the Senate floor to take cheap shots at an opponent and easy advantage of an issue he has less than zero understanding of. Let me say first in response to Senator Obama, running for President is different than serving as President. The office comes with responsibilities so serious that the occupant can't always take the politically easy route without hurting the country he is sworn to defend. Unlike Senator Obama, my admiration, respect and deep gratitude for America's veterans is something more than a convenient campaign pledge. I think I have earned the right to make that claim...
I know that my friend and fellow veteran, Senator Jim Webb, an honorable man who takes his responsibility to veterans very seriously, has offered legislation with very generous benefits. I respect and admire his position, and I would never suggest that he has anything other than the best of intentions to honor the service of deserving veterans. Both Senator Webb and I are united in our deep appreciation for the men and women who risk their lives so that the rest of us may be secure in our freedom. And I take a backseat to no one in my affection, respect and devotion to veterans. And I will not accept from Senator Obama, who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform, any lectures on my regard for those who did... Perhaps, if Senator Obama would take the time and trouble to understand this issue he would learn to debate an honest disagreement respectfully. But, as he always does, he prefers impugning the motives of his opponent, and exploiting a thoughtful difference of opinion to advance his own ambitions. If that is how he would behave as President, the country would regret his election.

Repentent crazed, ignorant ideological cannibals The Nation may have redeemed itself by committing some long overdue journalism in relation to that hooded Exhalted Cyclops ,Ron Paul...but what has the fucking New Republic done for us lately?
"No one could have anticipated the breach of the party," said Jonathan Chait, senior editor of the New Republic. "But Lieberman's recent op-ed, calling the Democratic Party insufficiently pro-American, is just sheer barking lunacy. I could never have seen this coming two years ago when I was calling Lieberman's critics 'a pack of crazed, ignorant ideological cannibals,' and I'm deeply sorry. It looks like I turned out to be the truly ignorant one in the end."

Demonstrating is like so passe comrades! A Tuesday fundraiser headlined by President Bush for U.S. Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign is being moved out of the Phoenix Convention Center.
Sources familiar with the situation said the Bush-McCain event was not selling enough tickets to fill the Convention Center space, and that there were concerns about more anti-war protesters showing up outside the venue than attending the fundraiser inside.

Midsomer expansion bolt murder massacre Bold leader? I'm sorry...I thought you said Bolt ladder. In the haul of the Mountain King - Reinhold Messner - Personal incapacity What have I personally got against "direttissimas"? Nothing at all; in fact I think that the "falling drop of water" route is one of the most logical things that exists. Of course it always existed - so long as the mountain permits it. But sometimes the line of weakness wanders to the left or the right of this line; and the we see climbers - those on the first ascent , I mean - going straight on up as if it weren't so, striking in bolts of course. Why do they go that way? "For the sake of freedom," they say; but they don't realize that they are slaves of the plumbline. They have a horror of deviations. "In the face of difficulties, logic commands one not to avoid them, but to overcome them," declares Paul Claudel. And that's what the 'direttissma' protagonists say, too, knowing from the start that the equipment they have will get them over any obstacle. They are therefore talking about problems which no longer exist. Could the mountain stop them with unexpected difficulties? They smile: those times are long past! The impossible in mountaineering has been eliminated, murdered by the direttissima. http://www.vboulder.com/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=1042Emilio Comici (1901-1940) was a legendary Italian climber who completed many important first ascents in the Dolomites, including the Via Comici on the North Face of Cima Grande di Lavaredo. The Via Comici is a very direct line up a huge wall that was considered impossible before this climb was completed in 1934. Still today it is considered one of the “Six North Faces” of the Alps. Comici is also famous for the concept of the “direttissima” as a direct route up a wall that follows the imaginary path taken by a drop of water falling from the summit of the mountain. | | 4:28p |
Brown acid flashbacks a trial On the afternoon of Tuesday, 1 August, Max Harris was at work on the new issue of Angry Penguins in the Reed & Harris office in the centre of Adelaide. There were also end-of-term exams approaching for which he would have to cram. At about 3.30 p.m. two policemen, one in uniform, the other plainclothed, came to the door. The man in uniform did the talking, a certain Detective Vogelesang. ‘We are police officers,’ he said. ‘What is your name?’ ‘Max Harris,’ said Harris. ‘We would like to have a talk with you. Are you the editor of a magazine Angry Penguins?’ ‘Well not exactly,’ explained Harris, ‘for there is a committee of four, of which I am one. There is Mr John Reed in Melbourne, Mrs Sunday Reed, and Mr Sidney Nolan.’ ‘Are you and the committee responsible for the publication of the magazine?’ ‘Well, what happens is that the articles are submitted to us, and when they are finally approved the book is printed in Victoria.’ Vogelesang assured himself that Harris was one of the proprietors of Angry Penguins, and was responsible for its distribution in South Australia. Then: I understand that in the Autumn number there was an Ern Malley section that you were responsible for publishing.’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Did you cause it to be published?’ ‘Together ‘with the other members of the committee.’ ‘Was it submitted to you for publication?’ ‘Yes.’ Harris had answered every question in good faith. It was time for the police to declare themselves. ‘What is this inquiry about?’ he asked. It is in reference to the magazine Angry Penguins,’ Vogelesang answered unhelpfully. ‘What do you want to know?’ ‘We first want to know if we are speaking to someone responsible for its publication and distribution.’ Harris was unsettled by now. ‘I don’t know whether I ought to answer your questions,’ he said. ‘You can please yourself about that.’ ‘Is this on the record or off the record?’ Vogelesang put on an official manner. ‘We have been instructed to make inquiries and we are making inquiries in connection with the provisions of the Police Act with respect to immoral or indecent publications,’ he said. Max Harris gaped. http://jacketmagazine.com/17/ern-heyw.html | | 4:45p |
Special measures Singapore has declared free uploading at sites 'youporn' and 'redtube' will not be tolerated. All blogger revolts will be crushed. Liberal economics has its limits and Lee Kuan Yeu was always a recovering Marxist anyheuw. Personal computers on broadband connections were a neglected weakness in Fortress Singapore Internet infrastructure. Compromised personal computers launched the majority of the free standing pron penetration attacks. The challenge of protecting this insurgent infrastructure from coordinated Internet attacks, even at the level of criminal activity, has yet to be sufficiently addressed. Thus, personal computers need to be reprioritized and considered as critical infrastructure in order for appropriate defense strategies to be developed. For the initiator, the Internet provides an easy, low-cost, risk free method to achieve immediate, large-scale impact. Because illicit tools such as botnets exploit millions of compromised computers, security experts cannot easily find computers free of malicious software. Although the private sector may not be keen on government intervention in Internet security, firms will welcome, if not demand, state involvement once the crisis strikes their own operations. In a world of increasing political uncertainty and cyber dependency, multilateral state-led action, in cooperation with industry stakeholders, is required to help protect the national and global infrastructure, which is the Totalitarian Information Agency. | | 4:55p |

Green Left Weekly Read daily '...Tactical differences over the conduct of solidarity work should not obscure our common support for the revolutionary governments of Cuba and Venezuela (in contrast to other left groups like Socialist Alternative). The DSP carries out solidarity work in a range of different ways, including by building AVSN and by publicising the Cuban and Venezuelan revolutions in Green Left. Green Left informs thousands of people about Venezuela literally every week, and also reports on Cuba fairly frequently. I would argue that GL is the most effective vehicle for building solidarity with these two revolutions in Australia...' http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GreenLeft_discussion/message/54294Torn from the pages... '...We must remember that the enemy penetrates everywhere. In Venezuela there is not one space where the enemy doesn’t penetrate. We must realise that the enemy is everywhere and we must be there as well. A comical event occurred about 20 years ago. There was an organisation for the defence of the rights of sex workers, and a lot of homosexuals and transsexuals joined. A member of the North American embassy was the head of the organisation and I began to wonder why. You must realise they do it for the intelligence. Do you think they wanted to participate in the defence of the sex workers? No, They were thinking that through the sex workers, they could obtain information. This is why I say there is no area where the enemy has not been inserted. We must have the firmness and conviction to also do the same, because we are defending our life, our country, and our rights, and the lives of our children, our future and our humanity. We are doubly obliged to do this...' | | 11:53p |
Is that all there is? It seems a perennial conceit of the bourgeois authoritarian socialist, or Marxist for short, that their body of work is somehow superior due to its bulk and weight as compared to the supple simplicity of anarchism. Yet much of this 'superstructure' evaporates on close examination. All that is solid materialist Marxist theory turns to air the closer you get down to it. So whats left? Going by Louis Proyect not much. Not much besides a fairly mindless Manichean split between 'Communism' four legs good. ' Capitalism' two legs bad. Not much besides the machtpolitik that actual existing socialism is the essence of might-makes-right. And not much else besides the usual blitzkrieg style polemics against the slightest levity or - Marx forbid! - criticism. This brings me to that old Peggy Lee classic...is that all there is?
After all what sort of walking talking black-hole of cynical nihilism could ever rationalize all those millions slowly tortured to death in the name of bourgeois ideological vanity?
Lets break out the booze and have a ball. Heres to Proyect radiation. Heres mud in yr eye. |
