Dario Marianelli - The Half Killed |
] |
Oh, the tragedy of such luscious film making being wasted because of unnecessary hype!
I wanted to love the movie, I really did, because I love period drama. The cinematography was amazing; the writing was beautiful, and the musical score was moving. But somehow, the story didn't do it for me. I just wasn't moved enough. The love story seemed detached like that of Ada and Inman in Cold Mountain. The twist was underwhelming. I expected something bravura, and I was disappointed. I didn't see the twist coming, but I wasn't thrilled either. Hmph. The first half of the movie was engaging, but the second half seemed fragmented, and some scenes just dragged on and on like that scene in Dunkirk. It was beautifully filmed, but really, what of it?
Keira "Kalansay" Knightley didn't do much except look all glam-ed up, and she is divine in this film, she was at her most beautiful. But girl, go eat a sandwich or something! I have a huge crush on James McAvoy after seeing him as Mr. Tumnus in The Narnia Chronicles: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Tama bang magka-crush sa faun?!?! Nyahahaha! He's very good in Atonement. May depth umarte kahit nakatulala lang. Move over, Jude Law? But it was clearly Saoirse Ronan who gave the best performance in the movie.
Overall, it is a beautifully made film but undeserving of the Oscar nomination but still worth seeing if only for the visual feast.
