Lifehouse - Storm |
] |
I haven't done a decent review in a while so I'll try.
I have 3 newly acquired albums that I've been listening to again and again for the past few months now--- Dolores O'Riordan's Are You Listening, Tori Amos' American Doll Posse and Lifehouse's Who We Are.
Of the three, I listen to Dolores' album the most. I love Apple of my Eye. Her voice is haunting with matching the piyok piyok chuva, feeling ko nag-oorgasm ako every time I listen to her. Dolores still sounds very The Cranberries. Well, after all, she was The Cranberries. So if you bought her album expecting The Cranberrie-esque songs, you won't be disappointed. Though most of the songs are melodramatic, they do sound sincere and inspired so it's easy relating to them. I am so buying (or downloading wahahahaa!) her second album.
It's not that I'm disappointed in American Doll Posse. In fact, I think it's better than The Beekeeper in most aspects--- it's a more well-thought concept album though it's kinda similar to Strange Little Girls, but I just can't connect to it. All the songs are nice, but Tori isn't about being nice. Tori bites. Tori is very tame in American Doll Posse. Parang nawalan ng bayag. But George is something! Parang napa-standing ovation ako kung paano niya tinira si Bush ahahahha! Very subtle pero deep:
I salute to you Commander And I sneeze 'Cause I have now an allergy To your policies it seems. Where have we gone wrong America? Mr. Lincoln, we can't seem to find you anywhere Out of the millions From the desserts to the mountains Over prairies to the shores Is this just the madness of King George? Yo George Is this just the madness of King George? Yo George Well you have the whole nation on all fours.
Maybe I just need to listen to the album more. This is not definitely the Tori that I've grown accustomed to, but then again as an artist, she doesn't have to limit herself to the Tori that most of her followers know.
I'm not really a fan, but Lifehouse does have songs na tagos sa dugo, and I love them. Everything, Breathing and You and Me just to name a few. In Who We Are, there's a song called Storm na sobrang ganda lang. A cappella lang si Papa Jason Wade sa umpisa at talaga namang it sent chills down my spine the first time I listened to it. Storm is a beautiful song. It sounds gospel and maybe it is, but tagos sa puso ang lyrics talaga it can be anyone's love song.
And I will walk on water And you will catch me if I fall And I will get lost into your eyes And everything will be all right.

Feist - Inside and Out |
] |
I also haven't done this in a while, but since I'm making a comeback:
Currently Reading: Haruki Murakami's South of the Border, West of the Sun
One liner: I would never see her again, except in memory. She was here, and now she's gone. There is no middle ground. Probably is a word you may find south of the border. But never, ever west of the sun.
The Last Song Syndrome:
I'll wait, I'll never give in Our love has got the power Too many lovers in one lifetime Ain't good for you. You treat me like a vision in the night Someone there to stand behind you When your world ain't working right I ain't no vision, I'm the girl who loves you inside and out Backwards and forwards with my heart hanging out I love no other way What are we gonna do if we lose that fire?
Feist, Inside and Out
Feist is the shit, man. She rocks.
But if I were to go back to college, Think what a loser I'd be- I'd walk through the quad, And think "Oh my God..." "These kids are so much younger than me."
Avenue Q, I Wish I Could Go Back to College
While waiting for the local theater production to have its Avenue Q runs, I'm brushing up on the recording. I wanna sing along with the cast in my mind while watching the musical hehehehe! And the song is so apt for someone who's 25 and wants to go back to college hehehehe!
