Yo-Yo Ma - Nostalgia from Cinema Paradiso |

February 25. Watched Romeo and Juliet the ballet with Gerald last Sunday at the Star Theater in Star City, Roxas Boulevard. Juliet was played by no less than Miss Lisa Macuja-Elizalde with her scholars from Ballet Manila. Star Theater is a gift to Lisa by her husband, Fred Elizalde, and is Ballet Manila's own home.
It was my first time to watch a ballet not because I was genuinely interested to see it, but it's an added experience na rin. Besides it's art, and I love art, although I'm not particularly interested in this form of art, and I have to admit na medjo inantok antok ever ako dahil wala pa akong tulog. My work ended at 12noon. Nag-undertime pa ako, I left the office at 11:30am baka kase ma-late kami ni Gerald for the show at 1pm.
Ballet is like pantomime. Walang tokis. Not only do you need to be graceful, flexible and all that, marunong ka rin dapat umarte. Sad to say, some of the performers can't act. But Miss Macuja is a good actress so carry niya. Kahit na ba mas bagay na Juliet si Gabriella Vita Galvez, the ballerina who played Lady Capulet, Juliet's mother, because she's younger and so beautiful. Parang beauty queen lang hahaha!
But Miss Macuja was fantastic! Para lang siyang nakalutang sa hangin! She was light as a feather, and siya lang ang pinaka-may presence sa lahat. Truly the country's prima ballerina, world class talent talaga. I admire this woman because I can imagine that it truly requires passion, determination and love to stay on top of her field. And her advocacy to make ballet more accessible to the masses or to anyone who enjoys art in any form is noble. Hindi lang siya pang-elitista lang.
Anyway, the real reason why I watched it was because Chin-Chin Gutierrez was narrating. And Anjie Ureta, Chin-Chin's manager, and I have been sort of "bonding" ever since we met at Mommy Cecile's wake. She even invited me to join Lisa's book signing session in Powerbooks, Greenbelt because she co-wrote her biography, Ballerina of the People. We've been texting and exchanging emails because we planned a get together for Chin-Chin's supporters in her Yahoo Group which I founded some 7 years ago, and we planned to hold it that day after the ballet.
Pero bago muna ang lahat, pictures from the ballet:

Chin-Chin was very theatrical and Shakespearean. Galing! Para lang siyang nagwa-one man act show ahahaha!

 Romeo sleeps

In furness super ganda ng set.
'Wag sana ako multuhin ni pareng William, but I really find the plot of Romeo and Juliet ridiculous hahahaha!
Ahahhaha!
Lisa's 2 kids were there in the curtain call. They gave Lisa flowers. Super cute nila. I swear!!! Parang mga anak ni Carmina Villaroel.
Chin-Chin got the loudest applause. I guess with all that had happened to her for the past months and because of Maging Sino Ka Man, household name na si Chin-Chin. As in grade school and high school students ang audience na hindi makapaghintay na matapos ang show dahil pwede nilang i-exchange 'yung ballet tix for ride-all-you-can sa Star City hahahaha!
The ballet ended at past 4pm, and our dinner with Chin-Chin was at 5pm. So together with Bea and Ellen, members from Chin-Chin's Yahoo group who also watched the ballet, we met up with 2 college students, Ria and JM, magpinsan sila, in front of Star Theater na rin to go to Kimono Ken in Bea's car.
To be continued...
