Uh oh. Click here. Another one for the Splitsville. Sadness. But can I just say, we all knew it was coming.

Been doing nothing during my free time but watch DVDs. Marathon galore talaga. Bought a 6 in 1 DVD of Pedro Almodovar films and an 8 in 1 DVD of Gong Li films. Amazing? Not really. Because nakakagalet, 'yung iba sa kanila walang subtitles!!!! Pokengina!!!! Kung marunong lang sana akong mag-Spanish at Chinese di'ba?!??!! Leche!!!
Anyhoo, keri na rin. At least I was able to watch older Almodovar films. The DVD includes (in their respective English titles) Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down (1990), High Heels (1991), Kika (1993), The Flower of My Secret (1995. How badeng the title debarge?!?!! Ahahahaha!!! Parang The Kepyas of my Secret chenelyn. Charot!), Live Flesh (1997) and All About My Mother (1999).
All About My Mother I've already seen years ago, but the others I haven't yet, and it's really interesting to watch Aldomovar films before his Oscar acclaim. So since a young Antonio Banderas starred in Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, inuna ko siya hahahahaha!!! Nakakaloka. Hott talaga si Antonio Banderas. He's so yummy here!!! Bata at barako!! Medjo clean looking siya here than in Desperado. Parang animal sa kama! Ahahahaa!!

He played an alpha male who's just been released from a mental hospital and is in search of an ex-porn star turned horror movie starlet whom he's had sex with before (played by the sensual Victoria Abril) to make her his wife. Syempre, as the title suggests, mejo may dahas na naganap at may I tie you up, tie you down pa ni Antonio si pekpek ahahahhaa!!! It's really a sex comedy/ twisted love story. But more than anything else, it's a parody of modern day relationships. It's funny, medjo mababaw but entertaining.
Isn't this shot amazing?!?! And hello naman, ang sarap diladilaan at kagatkagatin ang buns ni Antonio hahahhaha!! Naalala ko tuloy ang kalaswaan nila ni Angelina Jolie sa Original Sin ahahhhhaahaha!!!!!
The Flower of My Secret is also a comedy but smarter than Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down. It starred Marisa Paredes, and can I just say that I'm so loving her right now. She's great in All About My Mother ( I especially like her character there because she's a Bette Davis fan), but she's simply wonderful here. She doesn't look very feminine, but I find her attractive. She even looked like Cate Blanchett in The Aviator in this movie. Probably the best way to describe her is handsome.
In this movie, she played a successful romance novelist and a neurotic wife living an unhappy married life. She met and became friends with an editor who later on became her ghost writer when she was unable to write romantic novels anymore because her husband has finally dumped her. In the end she learned how to let go of things gracefully and start anew. I love this film. It's very light and charming.
The other films na walang English subtitles are High Heels and Live Flesh. Leche, I wanna see High Heels because of Marisa Paredes. 'Yung Live Flesh naman, naintriga talaga ako because of the title so deadma na kahit hindi ko maintindihan ang dialogues hahahahahha!!! Fast forward lang ako ng fast forward baka sakaling may sizzling scenes and ohmygad, it didn't disappoint hahahahaa!! Javier Bardem (nominated for Best Actor in Oscars 2000 for Before Night Falls) is in this movie pero may super hottie hahahahhaha!!! His name is Liberto Rabal. I'm not familiar with him pero ang gwapo niya ahahahha!! Clean looking siya sa simula ng movie....

...but he accidentally killed someone so nakulong siya and lo and behold, hotness ang barako ever!! Ahahahahhaa!!!!

At kamusta naman ang frontal nudity?!?! Ahahhahahaha!!

And this shot is just beautiful:

Grabe si Almodovar!!! Talagang bringing out the barako in his actors hahahahhaa!! Parang si Gael Garcia Bernal in Bad Education! Nakakalibog! Ahahahaha!

The Gong Li DVD includes the Chinese films (in their English titles of course) Terracota Warrior (1989), Raise the Red Lantern (1991), Temptress Moon (1996), To Live (1994), The Emperror and the Assassin (1999), The Flirting Scholar (1993), Farewell My Concubine (1993) and Eros (2004).
Of the films mentioned, I've already seen Farewell My Concubine, Raise the Red Lantern (hindi nga lang buo grrrr), and Eros. Syempre fabulous si Gong Li sa lahat ng mga films na 'yan. She's always fabulous that it isn't suprising anymore. I've said it time and again, she is probably the best working Asian actress today.
To Live is an epic struggle of a Chinese family from the 40's to 80's. It showed how a once rich family lost all its wealth to gambling and how they have managed to survive through the communist revolution. The movie is anti-communist but not once did it become preachy, emotional but not sappy. I love it. This is perhaps Gong Li's best performance to date. She became the character she was portraying. You don't feel that she's acting at all. From a glamarous wife of a wealthy man, she became a peasant keeping her family together amidst the revolution. For someone as divine as her, her transformation is simply amazing. It's something Nicole Kidman miserably failed to do in Cold Mountain. And no, beauty is not an excuse.
It is directed by the great Zhang Yimou of Raise the Red Lantern (nominated for Best Foreign Languange Film in Oscars 1992 and The Road Home starring a young Zhang Ziyi, but is probably more known for his recent works Hero and House of Flying Daggers.
I have yet to finish Temptress Moon. It is directed by Kaige Chen of Farewelll My Concubine pero medjo nabobore ako sa movie. Hindi ko matapos in one sitting. She starred with another great actor, the late Leslie Cheung whom she's also worked with in Farewell My Concubine.
