1994 was a fabulous year for Asian cinema. Hong Kong's Farewell My Concubine, Tokyo's The Wedding Banquet and Vietnam's The Scent of Green Papaya.

Out of the 3 Asian films mentioned, Vietnam's entry lang ang hindi ko napanood. Eeeekkkk!!! I need to find a copy, help!!!! I also haven't seen UK's entry, Hedd Wyn. Pero fabulous ang Farewell My Concubine. I really love this film. Napakagaling ng the late Leslie Cheung, antaray taray niya. Charot! Ahahahhaa!! At ang Gong Li, what can I say?!?! Isa siyang diva to the highest heavens above. Have you seen her L'oreal ad? She's so luminous!! I love love love her!!! Maganda rin ang story niya. It's not only a cultural movie, socio-political din siya. And I love the subtle hints of fagness, so this can also be considered a gay film.

The Wedding Banquet is a screaming gay film, and I love it! It's a light drama about acceptance and honesty. It's funny and heart warming. I dunno about you what this is waaaaay better than Brokeback Mountain, and Ang Lee's best film to date. The last shot is just so memorable.

So how in the world Spain's Belle Epoque (The Age of Beauty) won over the aforementioned films, I have no freaking clue. I have just seen it, and entertaining naman siya pero hindi ako totally nag-enjoy. Sure, I got and enjoyed the humor, but that's about it. And Penelope Cruz is irritating as always!! Forever siyang nakanguso, gusto ko siayng sungalngalin, I swear!!! Well, except Adriana Gil who played Violeta. He's not charming enough. Naiinis talaga ako when I found out na The Wedding Banquet and Farewell My Concubine pala ang mga kalaban niya sa Oscars. What an injustice.

OHMYGAD!!!! Ang ganda ganda!!!!! Napakafabulous ni Ate Reg!!!!! I luuuuurve the concert, I swear!!!!

CHAROT. Hindi ko siya napanood. GRRRRRRR. This is the first in 2 years na hindi ako nakapanood ng concert ni Chona. I was able to watch Reigning Still in 2004 and Reflections last year. Well, keri lang. I've already heard her sing most of the songs in the repertoire live na naman e. *bitter herbs*

Well, deadma na. Lemme share na lang a text message which Paul forwarded to me a couple of weeks ago:

1986 was
a year
of revolutions.
it was the year
when our people
kicked out a
dictatorship that
stifled our freedom.

it was the year
the first lady
president stepped
into power.

and it was the
year when the
Filipino people
heard the
powerful voice
of

REGINE VELASQUEZ.

And with that, mag-concert ka ule next year, Ate Cho, and I swear, hinding hindi ko na siya palalagpasin!!!!! Whaaaaa!!!!

Guess who's with the diva Bette Davis in this picture?

Guess....

Yep. It's no other than Marilyn Monroe. Before she became a superstar, she was a mere extra in All About Eve. Her role? A dumb blonde theater actress wannabe. Ahaahhaa!! She was funny though.

The film is about fame and deception. It is considered as one of the greatest American films ever. It received a total of 14 nominations in the 1951 Academy Awards (tied with Titanic in 1997). It went home with Best Picture.

But All About Eve is really all about Bette Davis. It's all about the diva and her stage. It's her show and no one dared take the spotlight away from her. Not even Ann Baxter who really played the lead role. She was Eve Harrington after all. E ano bang title ng movie, all about Eve di'ba!? Ahahahah! She even had to pressure Fox so that the movie outfit would campaign her for the lead actress category instead of supporting in award giving bodies. In 1951, Miss Davis earned her 9th Best Actress Oscar nomination, Ann Baxter her first. And for the first time in the history of the Academy, two actresses were nominated in the same lead acting category for the same movie. Napakataray, di'ba?!!?! But the ensemble was great. Everybody gave a superb performance.

All About Eve is a classic through and through, and it is mainly because of Bette Davis. She was perfection as Margo Channing and should the movie be remade today, there's simply no other actress who can fill Miss Davis' shoes. The local film industry made a pathetic attempt in 1994. Remember Koronang Itim which starred Snookie Serna and Sharmaine Arnaiz? *shudders*

Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night.
