Nakakatuwa ang Gawad Urian. Puro independent and digital films ang nominated for Best Picture except for Blue Moon. Other films were Ala Verde, Ala Pobre, Big Time, La Visa Loca, Ang Daan Patungong Kalimugtong, and Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros. Among them, I only saw Big Time and Maxi. Maxi ako all the way. And it's very deserving of the Best Picture win. It's one of the most important Filipino films of the decade.
Sadly, Mark Meilly for La Visa Loca wasn't nominated for Best Director. The nominees were Briccio Santos for Ala Verde, Ala Pobre, Mario Cornejo for Big Time, Joel Lamangan for Blue Moon, Mes de Guzman for Ang Daan Patungong Kalimugtong, and Aureaus Solito for Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros. Aureaus please!!!! Anybody but Joel Lamangan!!!
Nathan Lopez aka Maxi was nominated for Best Actor along with Carlo Aquino for Sa Aking Pagkagising Mula sa Kamulatan, Ricky Davao for Pusang Gala, Robin Padilla for La Visa Loca, Yul Servo for Ilusyon, Dennis Trillo for Blue Moon and Jaime Wilson for Big Time, and Rhenuel Ordono for Kalimugtong. Yay for Robin for his first Urian nomination and win. I would have loved Nathan to win, but it's Robin's year.
Interesting choices for Best Actress nominees. Irma Adlawan for Sa North Diversion Road, Claudine Barretto for Nasaan Ka Man, Ana Capri for Ala Verde, Ala Pobre, Jaclyn Jose for Sarungbanggi, Jaycee Parker for Ilusyon, and Analyn Bangsi-il for Kalimugtong. Gad, I don't even know these movies. Taray ng Jaycee Parker. Syempre Ate Clau Clau ako, but Jaclyn Jose won. Deadma, I love Jaclyn. There goes my prediction of Ate Clau winning a grandslam this year hahaha!
For Best Supporting Actor, the nominees were Soliman Cruz and Ping Medina for Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, Johnny Delgado for La Visa Loca, Ketchup Eusebio for Sa Aking Pagkagising Mula sa Kamulatan, and Michael de Mesa for Big Time. I hope Soliman Cruz won.
For Best Supporting Actress, the nominees were Boots Anson-Roa and Jennylyn Mercado for Blue Moon, Joy Soler-de Castro for Pepot Artista, Gloria Diaz and Hilda Koronel for Nasaan Ka Man, and Hallen Sumingwa for Ang Daan Patungong Kalimugtong. Can I just say that I hate Jennylyn Mercado?!?!?!?!
Mabuhay ang digital films na siyang bumuhay sa industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino ngayon. Mabuhay ang Urian for acknowledging digital films! Mabuhay ang mga sumusuporta sa pelikulang Pilipino!
And kung sino man ang may alam kung sino ang ibang mga nanalo, please inform me!! Whaaaaa!!!

 And speaking of digital films, I watched Brilliante Mendoza's Masahista last night. I got bored. Same old plot which is really a shame because interesting 'yung subject. There wasn't really much of a plot, sobrang nasayang ang material. Jaclyn Jose and Katherine Luna were very underused. Allan Paule's character is interesting kung na-develop ng lubusan. Coco Martin can act, but na-bother ako kase ang cute cute niya hahahahahhahaha!!!! Nawala tuloy ang atensyon ko sa acting niya hahahhaa! Overall, the movie showed potential, masyado lang hackneyed ang plot. Interesting symbolisms though. And na-sad ako when Allan Paule's character, Alfredo, tricked Coco Martin's character, Iliac, in the end. Not a bad film, but it could have been so much more.
Next payday, I will buy Ilusyon and Pusang Gala.
