Better Than Ezra - I Do - Smallville |

I WAS a big fan of Manny Pacquiao. His story of from rags to riches appealed to me. He didn't really personally inspire me, but his story alone is inspiring. It proved that from a big nobody, you, too, can be a somebody. A fame story which this country, in its current situation, desperately needs.
Pacman WAS exciting. I watched almost all his fights that were televised (Heck, I wouldn't pay to see a boxing match live noh!!! Yuch, the blood and everything hahahaha!). I've seen his fights with Antonio Barrera and Fahsan (which was held in Taguig with no other than ate Regine Velasquez singing the Philippine National anthem). When he lost to Erik Morales in their first fight, I was more proud than disappointed. Losing by 2 points, all bloodied and stuff, isn't really losing. His last fight with Morales made me literally scream at my TV set out of joy. I wasn't even a big fan of boxing. I would only watch his games because it felt good to be one with the majority. Wishing that he'd win by TKO (which he is very good at) together with millions of other Filipinos almost feels like unity. Kahit sa boxing lang, why not?!!
When the TV commercials came. Keri lang, why not, who would refuse extra money. The ads were fine until Magic Sing came along. Haller, whoever thought of having someone such as Pacquiao, voice quality and all, endorse their product. Nyeta. And then all the politicians wanted to be with Pacquiao. ABS-CBN kept rubbing his accomplishments in in the cheesiest manner like he's some god-like hero descending from the heavens above to save us mere mortals. Nakaka-turn off. Then came The Manny Pacquiao Story. Magpapatalo nga ba naman kay Cinderella Man?! And then you'd hear him say in an interview, "Patutumbahin naten si Larios sa 3rd round!!" Huh?!?! Where was the humility I used to admire in him?!? I guess that's what happens when people around you keep reminding you of your success not really for your benifit but for their own. And napatumba nga ba?! Truth is his fight with Oscar Larios last Sunday was a big bore. It's like watching an exhibition than a main event. ZzzzZ.
Sure, I voted for him shamelessly to be on Time's Asian Heroes cover. Aside from Chin Chin Gutierrez, it's nice to see another Filipino on the cover especially since he's closely competing with Rain. I mean, come on. But proclaiming him as an official national hero?! Please. Enough already. Sure, he's a hero in his own right. I mean, heroism is debatable. You don't really have to die to become a hero. But heroism has a lot to do with character. Superstar, yes. National hero, a fig fucking fat no.

Besides, may national hero ba na magdedeny sa anak niya sa labas dahil takuza (takot sa asawa)?!?!?!! Ewwww.
