I suddenly got thrilled realizing that it's just 2 weeks more to go before Da Vinci Code!!!! I wasn't excited then but I really want to see how they've filmed this. I'm excited to see all the places mentioned in the book. I'm not too excited seeing Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon nor Audrey Tatou as Sophie though, but what the heck. They're competent actors, and Ron Howard is a competent director, so I'm sure something good will come out of this movie.
I know that many conservative Christians who haven't read the book or who are simply too lazy to read anything will be shocked when they watch this. Why, I was mildly shocked as well, and prior to reading the book, I've read Nikoz Kazantzakis' The Last Temptation of Christ, watched the Martin Scorcese film version and read portions of Holy Blood, Holy Grail. I was even into the Gnostic gospels before, but it still intrigued. I can't wait for the controversy it will cause, the discussions in the pantry during breaks, or possibly even debates on TV.
The novel isn't a classic. It's even far from being a contemporary masterpiece, but if Dan Brown has succeeded in anything, it would be that everybody's talking about his book. I can imagine that it's every writer's dream.
