It doesn't feel Holy Week. [13 Apr 2006|06:58pm]
[ music | Bucky Covington - Oh Boy - American Idol 5 ]

Wala lang. This holiday lost its melancholic feeling. I kind of miss it, actually.

Boooohoooo!!! Papa Bucky Covington's gone. Parang ang sarap sarap paligayahin ni Papa Bucky sexually. Ahahahahaha!! Oh well, I'd rather see him go than Elliott Yamin who's such an eye candy! But I would really rather see Ace Young go because he totally messed up Queen's We Will Rock You. Sheesh, wala syang alam gawin kundi magpacute. I wish he'd go next week.

And I was so sad and shocked that Mandisa Hundley was eliminated last week. So wrong, I really like her. I'd rather see Paris Bennett leave.

Watched 2 movies during my rest days the other day and yesterday.

I have no idea how the play was but considering that I liked Proof even though I abhor mathematics might mean that the play was really good, and I'm sure it's better than the movie because that's how it is most of the time, right. The ending was a little off though and even a bit rushed, but all in all, it was good.

Well, the movie really didn't really focus on mathematics but on Gwyneth Paltrow's character, Catherine, struggle to keep her sanity. It's really good. Other might find it boring though because it's all talk. GP, who just gave birth to second baby with Coldplay's Chris Martin whom they named Moses, was really good. I think I'd rather see her get nominated for the Oscars than Keira Knightley in Pride and Prejudice. GP has a knack for delivering her lines on time which is important in this movie because it's all talk nga. And she nailed it. She gave justice to her role that you wouldn't really know if she's going nuts or not. Hers was an emotional and heartfelt performance. It was also refreshing to see her with almost no make up on, her hair all greasy and yuchy ahaha. I can't imagine Lea Salonga playing the same character in a play, which she did some years ago.

I thought that Jake Gyllenhaal was ok, not bad but not too memorable. He still hasn't outdone himself in Donnie Darko. Hope Davis was good; she was really irritating. But Anthony Hopkins stole every scene he was in with GP. That's how great an actor he is.

Also watched Three Extreme, a Japanese/ Chinese/ Korean version of our very own Shake, Rattle and Roll, which is a three story movie with an Edgar Allan Poe feel. It's horror, but it's more eerie than scary, and I loved it. It's been a while since Hollywood has produced an original horror movie. Last good Hollywood horror movie I can think of was Saw, and there is an episode in the movie that's so much like Saw. You don't know who copied what from whom, but both movies were released in 2004 that the similarity could have just been a coincidence.

The first episode is entitled Box, which is my least favorite of the three. In fact, I didn't like it all that much, and I couldn't understand all the buzz for Takashi Miike, a Japanese director, who also directed One Missed Call and Audition which I also didn't like. There were some moments of really insane horror, but the movie didn't terrify me as a whole. Same goes for this episode. Kyoko Hasegawa, the lead actress in the episode was very pretty though. She would make a good Sayuri in Memoirs of A Geisha.

The second episode is Chinese entitled Dumpling. This is my favorite (and also the most controversial), and it really grossed me out. Want to stay young forever? How about eating dumplings made of human fetuses? This episode is really sick, and I love it. And I was really horrified by one scene where Miriam Yeung started licking the blood off her mouth like some monster. Gawd, her tongue was really gross.

The last episode, Cut, is by the acclaimed Korean director, Chan-wook Park, who is also the director of the Vengeance trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Old Boy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance). This is the episode that seemed like Saw. It was a survival game. It was really interesting as it was philosophical and quizzical as most of Park's movies are. They could have gotten somebody for the role of the director because Byung-hun Lee, though very cute, couldn't act to save his life.

Next DVDs to watch: The Squid and the Whale and Hostel.
