A cultural question [26 Oct 2007|09:39am]
[ mood | confused ]

Is it responsible for the channels to show horror movies at like 7pm. ???? I know I only care because I'm going to be a mom, but I'm sure there are 9 year olds out there flipping through at 7! I saw at least 4 slasher flicks playing at that time. I know they are cut for TV, but seriously!! Kids don't get a childhood anymore. America is so f*cked up. Violence is de riguer, but sex is totally taboo. Sex is icky & for bad girls & pornography. We are so puritanical. Boobs are for Playboy. If a woman is seen nursing in public, everyone screams, "groooooooooos!" No, sorry. That is the most natural, beautiful thing in the world. Chainsawing people is gross. Why are we so backward & repressed? I don't want to sound like I'm pissing on my country. I love America & force my husband to live here, but I do have complaints - especially as a woman.

Why isn't the human body, in all its shapes and sizes, seen as beautiful? In America women feel they have to fit a Barbie doll mold. Flaws can be amazing & sexy. Stepford women who all look alike is just boring. In other parts of the world women are better at owning their femininity. They celebrate who they are & the confidence makes them so attractive.

Why is violence funny & campy? Does that make war seem more like a harmless video game? We have a generation behind us being raised on torture films. NOT scary movies, torture movies. They aren't being desensitized? Clockwork Orange anyone?

Taking your top off at the beach is a lewd act punishable in court. Yet most teenage boys are sitting in their rooms watching cyber porn endlessly & it isn't harmless sunbathing they are logging on for.

It isn't a political question, it is a cultural one: What the F*ck is going on in this country?

America - the beautiful - I fear we are getting it all wrong.
