RANT ahead turn back now
you
were
warned
I'm not a political person. Mostly, I'm a socialist. Maybe that's another reason why I married a Frenchman. That and his tolerance of my loves of wine, cheese & small dogs.
But I digress...
I voted for Alan Hevesi tonight as my State's Comptroller amid a huge sea of scandal swirling around him. From what I could tell, he's done a good job & I felt he deserved to be reelected.
*GASPS from the crowd* Ok, ok, He made a mistake (Using his driver to drive his sick wife.) I think that is forgivable. Maybe I'ma sucker * turns into walking lollipop* My question is this: why in America does the punishment so seldom fit the crime? Murders go free after a few years. Pedophiles roam free & are given countless opportunities to hurt more people. Being overprotective of an ill wife is not a huge deal to me, he was WRONG. But you know what - I can't pick up that first stone. I just can't do it. I think we allow the ridiculous & we refuse forgivness for the understandable. People make mistakes & US magazine sells papers. Reese & Ryan get divorced & America gloats. I've had enough of a smear campaigns while somewhere O.J. golfs. Everything seems - wrong. People get pissed if desperate houswives isn't on & don't care that in Africa one child dies every three seconds.
Voting wasn't fun this year & yet it always feels necessary.
Anyway, I forgive you Alan. Even if nobody else does.
I am Marnie & I approve this message.
