Netta passed away on Christmas Eve. Apparently, she had a large tumour removed from her stomach and intestine in June and never really recovered. I did not even know she'd been so sick.
I knew Netta from our years studying Chinese at university. We lived in the same dormitory for a year in China. I can remember us riding our bicycles down a busy lane, crowded with tailors' shops, in Hangzhou. I helped her when she had to go to hospital and needed an interpreter. When we came home after our year in China, we just lost contact with each other. We had never been close anyway, and besides, in my youthful arrogance i dismissed her as being "old" and "boring". Now of course i realise that she was just older than i am and had a lot to share, but i couldn't really have heard it then.
Who could have known that just a scant 10 years later, she would be dead? Who knows, in 10 years, i could also be dead. A timely reminder to myself - live, and enjoy life, love and tell those you love, that you love them.

Tadi, waktu membaca jurnal adik, terpikir pulak, kalau menulis jurnal ini, kenapa tidak dalam BM? Maklumlah, aku di sini tak ada seorang temanpun yang boleh ikut cakap Melayu dengan aku.. Nak menulis dalam BM memang aku kena pikir baik-baik, bukan macam menulis dalam Bahasa Inggeris... Kalau membaca dalam BM pun sikit aja, setakat membaca Utusan Malaysia dan Berita Harian online. Tapi pelik kan, waktu M dan aku ke Malaysia tahun lalu, wah, syok benar dapat mendengar BM kat radio, tv, di mana-mana pun... Waktu bercakap dengan orang Melayu aku gembira sekali, pelat aku tidak terlalu "Cina", tidak terlalu janggal. Mungkin kalau aku menulis dalam BM, walaupun sekali-sekala, itu tabiat yang baik. Entahlah...
Ha, lepas BM, boleh pulak aku tulis dalam Bahasa Cina.. heheheh...

Finally. I got my job application finished today, and finished off a couple of things at work this morning before leaving at noon. It's very nice to be able to swan out of the office just as people are starting to think about what they're going to have for lunch...
I meant to "get things done" when i got home, but so far, apart from doing the dishes and drinking lots of tea, i haven't done a thing worth writing about. Kind of not sure what to do with myself, actually. I don't think the whole holiday thing has sunk in yet...
Wish M was home.
