last week i bought battle royale on dvd at an anime convention.
loooove loove loove this movie.
if i'd have to choose favorite characteres, it would definitely be utsumi and the lighthouse girls.
OH, and i have one question to ask...

Good news!!! Battke Royale is not officialy banned in the U.S. anymore!!! TOEI is in the midst of gettin the movie released in the U.S. we should be seeing BR and BR II by december.. for the full scoop check out Battle Royale Film... There is another site that has alot of info on the movie was but its not working at the moment, ill get back to everyone on it.

I just happened to look up Battle Royale in the community listings and found this.... I would have to say its pretty bad ass. Battle Royale is the best movie ever to be made, and its good to see other poeple out there enjoying the movie as much as i do. I remeber seeing the movie in 2000 when it released and not a single person i asked knew what the hell i was talking about. Finally 4 years later its catching on. the only thing that sux is BR and BR II will never have an american release, but we can all hope for the best. I dedicated my journal to the movie, but its still in the construcion stage. Check it out and let me know what you think.

hey all - i'm new here, i just randomly pressed battle royale in my interests and was brought to this lovely community. so yea love the film, i got the special dvd thing last year and was so close to getting my hands on br2, when my dad (who is japanese) went to japan during it's release, but it's release on dvd was the day after he left... so i'm still hoping on getting soon - - - but i haven't heard much about it, apart from plot, no one's said how good it is - so can anybody tell me?!

Hm... apparently I did join this... Anyways, I was just reminded the movie exists by the trailer for Kill Bill, and I'm curious why this doesn't have a North American release. At first I thought it was just a nichey small distributor release, but then I looked it up and found out about the NA thing, so I'm curious why. I read something about the production company refusing the film for North American companies which I at first thought was supposed to be to avoid merchindising and remakes, but it was against distributing the movie at all? I'm curious if the rights to remakes are also legally held back.
I'm worried about casting, and content being changed in negative ways, but I'd also like to see a version of the film that's a bit more clear. Maybe clearer film stock, a DVD release with understandable subtitles/captions, and considering the book and manga release which I actually can get, having some form of a film version.
I'm also curious about if that would apply to the sequel since it was a director thing.

Newbie here. Saw the movie finally last week. I was not disappointed needless to say. Favorite characters would probably be Shinji, Kawada and Mitsuko. Kiriyama to some extent. Reading the novel now, good shit so far.

I guess that I'm new here. I joined this a few weeks ago, but I failed to post in this community. I watched BR last year at my friend's house and it has been my favorite ever since. I am currently reading the 617 page novel and I completed the first volume of the Manga which came out in the U.S. at about May 1st. I've been watching trailers of BR2 and looking up all the characters. I can't wait until I see it!

I only saw the first one a couple months ago but I loved it so much and now it's my favorite movie. ^^ My favorite character was Kiriyama.. xD Just wanted to say hi to everyone and I can't wait for BR2 to finally come out. ^^; I'm beginning to get so anxious!

Premiere date set: The first public screening of BRII is scheduled for 5:30 pm on June 22 at the Kosei Nenkin Hall in Shinjuku. Kenta Fukusaku, Tatsuya Fujiwara, Ai Maeda, Shugo Oshinari, Natsuki Kato, Ayana Sakai, Haruka Suenaga, and other actors from the film are scheduled to speak before the screening and meet with the audience afterwards.
I AM SO EXCITED.

Our favourite transfer student, Yamamoto Taro (Kawada Shougo) is in the new Gackt/Hyde/Suzuki Anne production, "Moon Child", coming to theatres soon in Japan. He looks very Kawada-ish and cute. *dies* He's pretty. ^^

Today, at the Santa Monica Book Market store, I managed to find the ultra rare + OOP "Maeda Aki in Battle Royale" photobook today for a mere 12$. Used, yes, but very nicely taken care of. Monday I'll scan in some of the pictures from inside.
Man, am I happy. ^^
But now that means I have to wait for more money to buy the BR translated manga. No matter. ^^

Well..good news, if you don't know it yet, I got my copy of the BR novel. Yay. :D
But now I feel stupid not asking about the manga when I was there. Blah. Oh well. I may have to look for it, still, since David's review is good so far..heh. I like the Shinji part that he put down. Woo.. Heh.. L'il Shinji's raincoats. xD
