No lappy for a while
My computer has been giving me a blue screen error for the past month and then yesterday morning it did some crazy stuff and decided it didn't want to start up anymore. So of course, I talk to someone else (Pete) about it because I know nothing about computers and he says it sounds like my hard drive...great. The good thing is my warranty is good for hardware until next July, so I call the circuit city folks. Now, like I said before I don't know a whole lot about computers, so I wasn't looking forward to talking to a tech person on the phone. He had me try to repair windows, which I had already done about twenty times...it didn't work, go figure. Then we went over the error message from yesterday and the other one I had been getting this month; he of course said they pointed to software problems. I told him if you google the BS one it talks about hard drive stuff, and that it seemed like more of a hard drive problem since I had received that message several times and now the computer decided to corrupt a file randomly (all from Pete of course). Anyway, it was clear the guy didn't want it to me my hard drive and according to protocol I have to do a system restore (wipe out my lappy) and leave it alone for 24 hours to make sure it's not a software problem. I had to wipe the thing out in the fall, which I told the guy, but oh well; I got to do it again. Fun times. He said we could check the event log in 24 hours and see if there were any problems without having installed anything. Again I got to sound like I knew what I was talking about because Pete had already had me check the event log, so yay for that. The guy still didn't believe me though, so bye bye all of my stuff. Thank goodness I didn't really have anything irreplaceable on there and I have most of it backed up from the last wipe out.
I called back tonight and guess what...I had the same error in the event log. This guy was much nicer though and said right off the bat it was my hard drive, good for him. He did start talking to me in computer geek language though after I told him something Pete had said...so I had to tune him out for a minute...other than that he was a nice guy. Anyway, they are sending me a box within 2 business days then I get to ship them my laptop and once they receive it I will get it back within 10 business days...basically I will be without a computer until the end of the month. I can use Megan or LeeAnn's computers so it's not horrible but I will miss having my lappy in my room where I could surf the net, watch TV and lay in bed all at the same time. Hopefully it will be good to go when I get it back though.
In other news, the pier made it through TS Cindy but Dennis isn't looking too good right now. I'm supposed to go home for the DIYAT this weekend, but that's up for debate until tomorrow because of the category 3 hurricane looming.
I went running tonight because my alarm didn't go off this morning. It's a good thing I woke up, but I did have to rush to get ready and ended up wearing last years pink shirt instead of this years. Oh well, at least it was pink and a camp shirt. |
