Glitterball So, the staff Christmas party. I've sat with this window open for ten minutes, thinking about how best to start this without sounding disappointed. The conclusion is that I will have to sound disappointed.
The main problem is that I live so far away. The event started at 7:30 and I had to be away at 10:20 to catch the last train. Not enough time for partying, particularly as I was the first person to arrive who hadn't been there for hours sorting it all out anyway! So I got started on the beer. I'd sunk a couple of cans before PB showed up - Maths colleague - with his wife, shortly followed by SB and her husband, who was very cool - a high court judge! We chatted in the student's café, above the hall. It's a gorgeous place but the acoustics are terrible - as the live band, fronted by a colleague's boyfriend, found to their cost. They were good, just not powerful enough.
The food was served at 8:40 and it was lovely - I had the chicken curry, which looked better than the hotpot. It was gorgeous! I also nabbed the penultimate dessert. I don't even know what it was but it tasted of sugar. Possibly artificial sweetener. After that, there was another hour's chatting - including to the Principal of the college! - before I had to go. Wonderfully, PB gave me a lift to the station and I didn't miss the last train.
So, could have been better. Of course, it could have been a lot worse, too!
Next up on Bally's Blurty - my own equivalent of the
