she's lost in coma, where it's beautiful,
intoxicated from the deep sleep...
do you wonder what it's like,
living in a permanent imagination?
sleeping to escape reality...
but you like it like that

01.06.04 [21:50] // dream // "Announcement: sex has been postponed due to inclement weather."
I think the biggest miracle surrounding my day today has been that I did, in fact, manage to get some sleep. More then several hours of sleep, even. I remained in my luffly warm and slumberous (is that a word?) state until a whopping 5:09 AM, when nature's call awakened me, but other than that I had a VERY pleasant night of good, wonderful warm sleep.
And I needed that.
Not to give you the impression that I had a bad back-to-school day. It was, in fact, even good towards the end. But, it was a long and slow day as I was no longer used to having to drag myself up out of bed at 5:30 in the morning and survive until 2:30 PM without being able to take any naps in between. =( That was the most disappointing part of everything, so, again, my day was comparatively good.
So. After the whole getting up / breakfast / bus hullabaloo, I got to school and went to the Commons. Today, of course, was a bit different as usual because everyone was supposed to pick up their schedules (even if they didn't change). I was one of the first ones there, had to wait awhile for the lady in charge of the K's to show up, and then waited. For whatever reason, I always have the fortune of making friends who are close to me, aplhabetically; in this case, Sarah and Kitty is are J's, Susan a K, and Courtney an L. So, all I really had to do was wait right by the J/K/L lines because undoubtedly I would not miss sight of my friends.
After a while of waiting, during which I wrestled with the fear that I would do something horribly stupid and everyone would look at me right at that moment (when in fact, no more people than usual gave me even a passing glance :D), they showed up, or rather, Kitty did, and the posse of Susan K., 'Nessa, Christy, Sondra, and some others followed. Courtney joined us later (Kitty and I had already been making bets about how "fashionably late" she would show up to school saying she had overslept, and we were right) and in the meantime we had some hilarious, of course LotR-related, conversations. A highlight:
Christy: "You know what's just WRONG on so many levels? Viggo CLEAN." Vanessa: "I know! I like my men DIRTY!"
After determining that none of us had secretly undergone drastic schedule changes that would prevent us from ever seeing any of the others again, the bell rang and we parted. Most of the others left for math, whereas I of course left for Art. Which, did not turn out to be too bad. At least I was not the only one who'd barely touched their piece over the break. Of course, then again there were also others who came back with nearly-finished pieces so stunning they looked like direct photographs. *vomits* Yes, they made me want to vomit. Well, they can enter their competition and win oodles of prize money. I don't give a shit about money. I just want a letter jacket, which this damned Rodeo competition will NOT help me towards anyway, and since the subject matter SUCKS and the style SUCKS and the damn thing isn't due until next Wednesday, I don't see why I should give a flying potato.
*er-hem* Yes, I am finished. Anyhow, moving on. Next class: Study Hall. THIS IS GOING TO BE THE COOLEST CLASS EVER. Or rather, lack of class. :D No tests, quizzes, grades of any sort. The only rules are that you need to keep yourself busy, and you can't listen to headphones or play electronic games. But that suits me just fine! I have markers, notebooks, a scrapbook to fill. And, of course, books themselves (or would, were the library more cooperative; I finished ANOTHER today and must YET AGAIN resort to pulling things from my parents' bookcase). And homework. Bwahaha. There were actually quite a few people in there. One of the Coleman twins (I can never for the life of me tell them apart.. I'm pretty sure it's the one in my Pre-Cal class, but I don't know which one that is XD), Aly, Monica Debs, a cheerleader.. then one girl and two guys I didn't know. Apparently there was also a girl who made magnificent cookies, but she's no longer in Study Hall this semester. =( Too bad.
The supervisor is a soach, or rather there are two coaches; one who is officially SUPPOSED to be doing the supervising, and one who is actually doing it for him. The official guy is Coach Marr, a football coach, and the actual guy is Coach Greeney, my sister's swim coach. Or rather, he WILL be once she gets to high school; but he does lead the after-school swimming program that she's involved in. In any case, I was quite surprised to find that Coach Marr is a Tolkien buff. o___o He went to the RotK midnight showing. Apparently we have the option to watch the LotR movies in there on DVD at least several times a year. w00t w00t. What on Earth could be better?! XDDD
Hardly anything changed in English for as far as I could tell. A couple of people dropped out or were absent, that was all. We continued with the presentations that hadn't gotten a chance to go before the break. Alex B. did his on Tolkien. XD He did a quiz afterwards to check up on how well we listened. His first question was, "When was Tolkien born?" XDDDDD I was like, "OH! ME! I KNOW! I KNOW!" January 3rd, of course. Pfft. ;D How could you NOT know that?! *coughs and points to three entries below* In any case, our team won and we got like eight mini kit-kat bars for our prowess. Bwahaha. (I think English was the most awake I was all day. Then it went downhill again from there.)
Nobody said anything about me moving to fourth period Chemistry once I got to that class, but then again I wasn't the only person who moved in... quite a few did, including Ryan D. and Jessie. Jessie and I were lab partners for today, although I heard her arranging to be partners with Amanda B. once this other girl moves out of the class. Leaving me as the odd one out without a lab partner. =( Go figure. Oh, well. In Chemistry that wouldn't be so bad. At least I wouldn't have to feel responsible when people copy off of me all the time. In any case, we started calorimetry. Which, in fact, is the same as the study of Heat in Physics, only we now use calories instead of Joules. Other than having to relearn some of the numbers, this is going to be the easiest unit ever. XP
Lunch was quite the same. Apparently me & Kitty and Sarah are still lunching together after all. Only Susan G. is missing. :/ Sarah will be moving soon though; we have to throw a goodbye party or something! ..Maybe not. My last few attempts at throwing parties have turned out as disasters. >_> Umm, okay. In any case, we had a good time. Sat inside, right by David Porter & co. again. I swear, whenever we sit inside, we cannot escape them. I cannot figure out if it is David doing strange maneuvers for obscure reasons, Kitty secretly trying to manipulate fate behind our backs, or simply pure coincidence. I'll put my bet on Kitty.
After lunch, it was finally off to what I'd secretly been waiting for all day: Physics. Once there I had a brief chat with Mrs. Schweiger, with me complaining about two Sciences in a row, then turned around to be greeted by two sights: Kirsten Kirkpatrick giving me a Look, and Curtis Porter walking to our lab table. At the sight of the latter, my heart skipped a beat, followed by the sinking feeling that I am in way over my head to the point where even I can tell, and that is saying something. In any case, I followed Curtis and sat down, and he sat down, and neither of us said anything. I thought about asking him how his Christmas went, but suddenly felt silly knowing I was the girl who gave him the Christmas card with the silly poem inside. All too soon, the opportunity was lost anyway.
Tons of people moved into our class. Justin Belk did, and somehow contrived it so Mrs. Schweiger put him with Rob as his lab partner. Oh dear Lord. Also, three new guys came in who are, apparently, trouble-makers by the cheers they were greeted with. Oh boy. This new arrangement promises to be interesting. But Curtis and I are still lab partners, so all is good in love & war, and my heart is thoroughly relieved.
As expected, Mrs. Schweiger put us to work, but not as badly as expected. Instead of lecturing us about the new unit, she gave us gadgets to discover the concepts of electrostatics by ourselves (or rather, in our pairs or groups). Group 5 ended up with Activity 3, in which Curtis and Ben rubbed foam and rubber plates over their hair to demonstrate the properties of insulators, conductors, and various other things, while Erwin and I sat and laughed rather hysterically. Curtis, of course, was not really paying much attention to the directions, so eventually I had to tell him that by the time we presented our findings to the class, all we really had to do was be able to define "conductor" and "insulator". He responded with, "Aww, we can do that!" and shoved the paper away from him. I, of course, was NOT really reassured, because he was muttering that a conductor is simply an object that conducts electricity, and I knew Mrs. Schweiger would not be content with that. I tried to tell him, but the stubborn ass refused to listen.
When we finally did get up to present, Ben/Nick got to demonstrate our experiments, while Curtis got to take the word. Finally, Mrs. Schweiger asked him for the definitions.. he replied, and, JUST as I predicted, Mrs. Schweiger told him that his definition was not good enough. She told him the correct one, and of course it was what I'd been trying to tell him all along! Touché!! XP People in the back snickered when Mrs. S kept correcting Curtis and he looked a little uncomfortable. I wanted to give him a hug. It's already tough being me. I can't imagine what it must be like being Curtis Porter.
Amazingly enough, when we were finally through (Mrs. S decided to lapse into a long anecdote about being in a lightning cone) she began to hand our star stickers to Erwin even though Curtis had fucked up our definitions. Standing next to me, he slightly turned his head and winked ever so slightly at me, saying out of the corner of his mouth so only I could hear:
"See, Nora.. we managed that one PERFECTly..."
Moments like that, life is perfect indeed. You can go home in the afternoon and cry rivers about how the guy in question can probably count on one hand the time he's given you more than a passing thought other than in the classes you have with him while you need a tally chart for all the times you think of him, how you've never been on a single real date, how many friends you have lost in the past year, how your family's falling apart, how you need more than one hand to count all the people that you know that have cancer, and the people that are dying of starvation in The Congo... moments like this, life is simply wonderful.
Of course, then it was back to reality.
We began learning about the Unit Circle in Pre-Cal, which took up much of the period. The rest was taken up amusing ourselves about the new class arrangement. Both Rob and Justin moved into our class, which means havoc for Mrs. H, and a repeat of good times in AlII for us. (See Court, I TOLD you you need to move to 6th Period!) Everyone was endlessly amused. Also, Kirsten Kirkpatrick moved to the slower, easier Advanced Pre-Cal class next door. Nothing against her personally, but I was secretly relieved. I've had about enough of all the Looks she always gives me. She probably can guess that I have more than a friendly interest in Curtis. Oh well, bully for her! *scoff* It's not like it's really any of her concern. She turned down her chances to be with Curtis so she could date a guy from Klein. She has nothing on me.
*Kirsten walks back into class to return her textbook to Mrs. H* Karim: "Whoa! She moved?" Kirsten: "Umm, yeah, I'm now next door in Mrs. Ayres'.. Advanced class." Alex: "Why did she leave us? That's not fair!!" Mrs. H: "You can still ask her out on a date; she's only next door!" Curtis: "Gwah? What? On a date?"
... Then again..
So anyhow, finally the bell rang to end the period and it was time to go home. Of course, I did have to endure the ride on the bus in the cold wind, but that's what CD players with spiffy new headphones are for! :D When I did get home I was greeted by the stunning revelation: I have Pre-Cal homework, but I don't have to do it! I can do it in Study Hall tomorrow! w00t, what a concept!!! So, instead I got a fleece blanket and a book (the one I later finished) and curled up on the couch with hot tea. Ah, life was wonderful indeed. Knowing you don't have to stress about homework, knowing you can curl up on the couch with a book and tea, and relax and even watch some of Gilmore Girls with your mother.. fabulous.
This semester is going to ROCK. I've never been so optimistic about school before, but I have a feeling things are taking a turn for the better. I just hope it will last.
(Actually, we do have a progress grade on our Art pieces tomorrow, but I forgot to take mine home. So, no use stressing over it. Huzzah.)
Mom decided to be active today and already made arrangements for our planned yoga classes together. We have a meeting tomorrow night, to meet the teacher and some of the other people interested. Sounds fun. What mom has told me about the program sounds awesome too. It's in six-week sessions, and apparently you only pay $89 for the six weeks. Once you do that, it's up to you how many classes you want to take. You can take the minimum once-per-week, or any others offered at your level. And there are like four Beginners classes at night, so that's perfect. Lots of room for schedulling it however we want it, with however many weekly classes we want it. What a marvellous concept!
Marvellous.. yes. The perfect word to describe my day: marvellous.
Peace and love!
