I FINALLY signed up for an alumni membership at my alma mater's gym. YAY!!! It's an amazing gym, like 60,000 square feet I believe, complete with two multi-use courts (basketball, volleyball, badminton, etc), many (I think 8?) squash/racketball courts, 2 weight rooms, 2 cardio rooms, 4 multi-purpose rooms (mainly for dance and yoga classes), an indoor track, a rock climbing wall, lap pool, diving pool, hot tub...and I know I'm missing some stuff but I think those are the important things. $86/term. Works out to about $30/month. Good stuff.
Then I had lunch with an old professor. She's the Sociology of Religion and the Gender and Society professor, as well as the chair of the department. I did some research work for her last year and she wrote me a letter of recommendation for grad school. She's a pretty incredible and accomplished woman, but is also a kind and sympathetic person. (e.g. when my grandpa died, she let me turn in the main assignment for the quarter over a WEEK LATE. It was a HUGE research paper!!) We'd been talking about meeting up for awhile now, after I asked her how she, as a woman of faith, reconciled the sociological idea that men and women are fundamentally the same with the ideology of Christianity and her church in particular (Eastern Orthodox Christian).
Then I gave blood and I beat my record. I filled the bag in 5:23. YAY! The phlebotomist wasn't that good and it really hurt when she stuck me, but I was pretty proud of breaking my record!
Then I went grocery shopping and saw Alexis Serna at the store! Alexis Serna is a senior who has finished his last football season at OSU. He's the placekicker and one of the best in the nation. He won the Lou Groza award as a sophomore! I always feel like it's a celebrity sighting when I see him, and I ALWAYS see him at the grocery store!
I've been sitting around since then, pretty worn out to be honest. It was a beautiful sunny day today and I enjoyed it, but tomorrow it's back to rain and work. |
