I am officially moving to Tumblr now.

If only because the music post feature will hopefully encourage me to be more productive.

I am considering moving here.

It does not have the awesome CURRENT MOOD feature of LJ-style journals. However, it lets me post both pictures and audio, which is nifty.

Considering that Katrina is the only one that reads this, I suppose it shouldn't be too much trouble if I move.

SO, annoyance of the day, something that has been eating at me for a while.

"Consistency is the last resort of the unimaginative." ~ Oscar Wilde

Now, wherever I see this used, it is used as an example of why inconsistency is a good thing. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that everybody is wildly misinterpreting the real meaning of the quote. Oscar Wilde is saying that consistency is the last resort, as opposed to the first. Which means that unimaginative people will usually be inconsistent, presumably to make up for their lack of imagination. Oscar Wilde is saying that it takes imagination to know when to be consistent.

Perhaps Oscar Wilde was aware of the ironic misinterpretations that would arise from a quote with double negatives. I wouldn't put it past him.

For an anniversary gift, Katrina gave me RHYTHM TENGOKU! It is by the ultra-creative team that also made WarioWare. It is great and amusing fun that is sure to keep me occupied forever.

"Hypnonano" was selected for the CC Film Festival, and they sent me two tickets. I was also invited to a pre-party, to which I have RSVPed. The pre-party begins at 6:30 and the film festival at 7:30. Katrina: As the actress who made her stunning debut in my soon-to-be-world-renowned film, would it please you to attend this event as my lovely guest?

Also, I have seen advertisements for open mic night tonight. I am going to try and perform. I am very nervous. This morning I played Gershwin's Piano Prelude No. 1 for the class, because it is on our listening. I was shaking, even though the audience was small and I knew the piece well. Hopefully my fingers will be still enough tonight to press the monome's buttons on the beat.

On February 27, The Monthly Bag appeared in CC bathrooms, a parody of The Monthly Rag, the Feminist and Gender Studies department newsletter. Students and faculty, who were disgusted, tore them down quickly. Later, Dick Celeste sent out an e-mail to the students, saying that he was “dismayed and disgusted” by the publication's “demeaning and threatening” content.

Anyway, this e-mail was the first I had heard of this fiasco. I paid very little attention to the debate until now:

When I got to Sacred Grounds, the place was completely desolate. No hammocks, no laughing hippies, only a single stool. Even the colorful walls were painted over. Everything looked much more tasteful, but also lonely. I waited a long time and investigated the grounds, but could find no sign of why there was nobody there. One other person showed up briefly, also looking for open mic night. When he saw it was empty, he left. Eventually I called Austin to tell him not to come, since it was empty. He said he was heading in my direction anyway so he would meet up with me. Such a good friend! (At least better than Sarah, who I called to ask if she was going to dinner, and she said they were waiting for Jay but she would call me when they went, and she never called me.)

Anyway, Austin and I headed back to his room in the Japanese Language House and he played some awesome electronic music for me which I had never heard. He saved my night. My only guess about Sacred Grounds is that they're in the middle of renovations (since there's going to be some sort of event in Sacred Grounds on Saturday) and closed during them.

[ music | Boards of Canada - Music Is Math ]

I went to a little workshop where I filled out a fun assessment thing to see what kind of career I should have (and more immediately what classes I should take.) I got 42 Artistic, 30 Conventional, and 29 Investigative. Basically, after reviewing the results of my report, I discovered what I really knew all along: I am no good with people. Thus, though I am interested in Psychology, it will probably be a hopeless track for me. Plus, I know I probably will go crazy if I don't have a job that involves lots of creativity, such as foley artist, sound programmer, video game music composer, etc. Hence, I've finally decided once and for all to go for a major in Computer Science and minor in Music. I know I'm good at both of them. Plus, I'm still taking Intro. to Psych. in the summer, so that will be an opportunity to have my mind changed. But my new tentative schedule:

BLOCK 1 Pre-Theory
BLOCK 2 Basic Filmmaking
BLOCK 3 Composition
BLOCK 4 Introduction to Literary Theory
BLOCK 5 Computer Science II
BLOCK 6 Theory I: Introduction to Counterpoint
BLOCK 7 Number Theory
BLOCK 8 Experimental Music

I got a call from the East Library. I set up a job interview on Friday at 3:45 PM at the East Library. Woo hoo! I also submitted an application to work in Tutt Library over the summer. It will be a longer drive to get to CC in the summer, but it will probably pay better, I have a better chance at getting it, and I might be able to get more hours. We shall see.

I felt exhausted this morning but a little better after splashing water on my face. I bought a sausage+egg+cheese croissant at Jazzman's Cafe. The girl in line in front of me was having some sort of trouble with her card, so she asked to use my card. Well, I always have tons of extra dining dollars, so of course I agreed. Her name is Laura. I got a paycheck for $150 but haven't deposited yet because I didn't have my card at the time. I put it in a deposit envelope and then in my pocket but it ended up getting all scrunched up. I put it in my Music book to hopefully flatten it out enough that the machine will still take it.

In class we learned about the Classical Era of music, which includes Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn. European music moved to a much more unified style in this brief era. After class I worked in the library, where the shelves were bursting with books and there was literally never a free moment. Every minute a new person would come to the desk, and meanwhile the pile of returned books just kept building. It was fun, but exhausting work. For once, shelving was actually the least strenuous shift.

I went to Tutt after work to ask about Computer Science. There were no professors, but there were two Comp. Sci. majors there, and they told me it's fine to just take Comp. Sci. II next year. The typical pattern is Comp Sci. I and II in the first two years, then a bunch of difficult Computer Science classes junior year. That should work out perfectly with all the Psychology classes I need to take next year anyway. My tentative schedule:
BLOCK 1 Research Design
BLOCK 2 Research Design
BLOCK 3 Social Psychology
BLOCK 4 Abnormal Psychology
BLOCK 5 Computer Science II
BLOCK 6 Beginning Screenwriting?
BLOCK 7 Number Theory
BLOCK 8 Cognition

I went to the C-Store and stocked up on food. The milk truck doesn't come until tomorrow, so I bought soy milk instead. I've never tried it, so I figured it can't hurt to try some. If I really hate it, I can always just ignore the starving children in Africa and throw it out. I made myself a sandwich and then took Sarah to Office Max. She gave me $8 for gas and the 5 she owed me. I bought two notebooks and a pack of double-A batteries for my bluetooth mouse. (The battery light has started to blink at me.)

WHOO FINALLY RELEASED.

MP3s for lazy folk here: http://pistonsource.iiichan.net/agargara/MoonGlider.zip
This is a joint EP, so make sure you check out HS' side too. He did a remix of one of my tracks, I did a remix of one of his tracks. Tell me what you think about them all! Stereo headphones highly recommended. (And practically required for the Alien Warhead remix. (Which is incidentally my favorite track. (More nested parentheses.)))

Dear Katrina,
Just so you know, I might do something with Greg&Co. Friday or Saturday. It's been a long time since I've seen him.
Love,
David.

Today I watched a CC student on Jeopardy. She was the youngest (the only college student) among the contestants, and was the most nervous. She trailed behind for a large part of the game, but toward the end picked up and got into a solid second place, but still losing by quite a bit to the leader. But then in Final Jeopardy, she bet all her money and won. (The leader didn't get the question right.) I felt proud because I knew the answer too. (Book Title References: "It had been a place to butcher pigs, but now it was going to be a home to 100 US P.O.W.s." Answer: "Slaughterhouse Five.") It was an excellent game.

Every time I read a Buttersafe comic or a Super Mega comic, it makes me realize just how much better other comics can be, and I think AAAAA is a pointless endeavor.

But then I find comics like Evolution or Of Something and Nothing of Purpose or Anti-Zombie Army and I remember why AAAAA exists: To show that crap scribbled in MSPaint in about 5 seconds, with no thought given to planning jokes, is usually funnier than the abundant atrocities like these.
