ChucK Returns... [08 May 2006|09:22am]
[ music | ~Stavesacre~ ]

Sup kids!
5~5~06: Cinco de Mayo! The radio interview went fairly well. We had lot of butterflies in our stomachs but the DJ helped us overcome that by just being a real person and pretty soon we broke free of silence...well almost. Norvin was still in awe during the whole interview.
5~6~06: Breakfast at Mike and Rondas then down to the Valley. Scorching 90+ degrees...we watched MI: III. No matter what critics say...I thought this movie was just like the first one. Cool flick.
We watched some teens flee Fiesta Mall Security, that was fun. We also saw a boat in the middle of the road in Phoenix, fun.
The Desert Jam was packed as Cecil and I drove up. We were welcomed by the man with the plan: Deal. Then checked out some jams from The Platero's, Guilty Wilson, Brother Bear...good! All good!
We went acoustic this time round. It was a soothing time and a lot of fun.
Thanks to the people that showed up and bought merch! For some that took the bread off our merch table...Thank Norvin, he spent all morning in the hot sun baking them...
Thanks to Deal&Co, and KJTA for the time on the air!
R.O.W.D.Y Jam this coming Saturday! Be there!
~Transistor Radio(pop-punk/rock)
~Se7en Story Ruin(Screamo/rock)
~Our boys:Fight the Quiet(Hardcore/rock)

I want my own little guy... [17 Apr 2006|09:16am]
[ music | Flee the Scene ]

- Thanks to everyone who came out to the Flagstaff show. We gave out more free stuff than we sold but we had enough to buy a Nimarco's pizza. There's nothing like NiMarco's. The afternoon winds slowed us down while we were hauling the trailer across the desert so we were a little late. We set up and the waiting began. We finally got the show rolling. At first the kids stared like their pants were going to tear and one-by-one they came up to the front of the stage. By our last song they were dancing & moshing their week full of stress away. What's most surprising is that this show was in a church. Imagine a mosh pit in a church & you'll see why we were stoked. We also met Emcee One - one cool cat. We're not into much hippity-hop but this MC was cool. We look forward to seeing him on the road (thanks for the CD!). Thanks again to everyone who came out, to IBC and to the FCF Church.

- KJTA 89.9 FM - Flagstaff AZ (1-800-230-4076) :: Amounting to Nothing's songs entitled "Worst Song in the World" and "Numbers" have been added to Flagstaff's KJTA radio station's Saturday night Rock of Grace show lineup. Call them up and request the songs!! We also dropped the Elixer CD on them so call them and request "Legacy" or "Flames". The show runs from 8p - 11p on Saturday nights.

- KJTA 89.9 FM - Flagstaff AZ :: More news? :: ATN has been tapped to do a radio interview and could possibly take over a Rock of Grace show! Can you imagine listening to ATN on the radio as well having them play their influential bands like Spoken, Number One Gun, Further Seems Forever, Project 86, MxPx, POD, Norma Jean and Underoath? We don't know if you could handle it...

- Thanks to everyone who submitted questions to the ATN INTERVIEW BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE. Here's a sample of what's to come:
Question: What is your claim to fame?
Chuck: I filled in as a drummer for Guilty Wilson one summer and we got the opportunity to open for PAX217, Number One Gun and Falling Up in Window Rock AZ.
Norvin: I know the guys in Spoken - we've talked quite a bit.

Question: What's the meaning behind the band name?
Casey: Sometimes we'll go to a show and people will say to us, "you're not Amounting to NOTHING! You're Amounting to SOMETHING!" They assume we have self-esteem issues but on the contrary, the name Amounting to Nothing keeps us humbled. When Jesus came to this earth His coming was described as God becoming nothing and taking on the form of a servant. That's where the name comes from...God become nothing and becoming one of us. That's what we want to do daily - become nothing so that everyone around us sees the work of God and not our pride.
Dar: I just play the drums.

- More shirts? We got another shirt coming out son! The design is finished and we're ready to send the shirts off to the presses. We might have them by our 4/29 show and we'll have them for sure for our 5/6 show in Mesa AZ.

- More news to come...keep checking up on us!!

Reap the whirlwind Murphey, REAP IT!! [12 Apr 2006|09:45am]
We keep getting told that we're going to get interviewed by various reporters and it hasn't happened so we're giving up on that idea and we came up with another one. We would like YOU to submit the questions and we'll do our own interview. The deadline for the submissions will be 4/14/06.

We will get everything together and have an 'AMOUNTING TO NOTHING INTERVIEWED BY THE PEOPLE FOR PEOPLE' story ready to go by 4/25/06. How's that for do-it-yourself? Ask away...ask Chuck how he many times he's bled on his drum kit. Ask Norvin how many shows he's been to in the last 6 months. Ask me (Casey) why I'm growing my hair like a hippie...not only will we post it here on our ATN website, we'll submit the interview to the Navajo Times, Hyperactive Magazine, Terra Incognita, Thirfty Nickel, Dine Underground Interview section, The Gallup Herald, The Gallup Independent, LIVE (Flagstaff), The Alibi (Abq NM) and anywhere else we can think of...and then we'll post their responses to the interview. Should be fun...

Golden Crowd... [03 Apr 2006|10:43am]
[ music | Norma Jean~O' God the AfterMath ]

One word: WOW!!!
Well the engine light seemed to never want to leave Chuck's dashboard. So, we all met up in G-town and headed out to the 3.5hr drive up to K-town. With a mix of Silverstein and Emery as company it made the hours seem a lil faster. We got to K-town and found the Golden Sands Joint. Ate some mutton stew and then started to set up our things. The crowd seemed to be growing by the minutes and soon the show opened.
The first band of the nite was:??? They never mentioned who they were. So they sounded good though.
Then Guilty Wilson came up. Man, everytime I see this band I am left with no words in my mouth...they rock!
Trisiagion headed up and did a farewell song acoustic style...good finish.
ATN headed up and were welcomed with fists raised in the air and kids screaming at the top of thier vocal cords...
I had soo much fun at this show. It was like we all let loose and played...actually played.
Trillium headlined and did an amazing performance for thier first time actually on stage. ATN was excited to share that moment with them...good job boys!
Thanks to Billy CrawleyIII and C.J. for everything and thanks to the boys and girls that came and just had a good time at the show!
Flagstaff, AZ at the IBC...be there! 4/14!!! Get yer groove on then have it smashed by ATN!

You can't take the music away from us... [27 Mar 2006|10:02am]
[ music | ~Funeral for a Friend~ ]

Saturday rolled around and we headed up to the capitol of the Navajo Nation.
~11:30 am we set up our booth at the flea market and proceeded to sell. Yet…no one bought anything. All we saw was dust and pinon shells and more dust.
~2:30 a dust storm roams through the market and ATN decides to leave the joint…
~3:00 we head to the museum and Chuck’s ‘check engine light’ lights up.
~3:30-Guilty Wilson opens the evening with an ecstatic performance. The songs were non-stop and they were/are a tight sound band.
~My Beautiful Misery is next. They did a good job.
~Highland Park, sounded good
~Shatterday covered some Nirvana songs, which was cool to hear.
~Arising Crest Fall, if you are a fan of Senses Fail/Avenged Seven Fold then this is the band to see.
~AxTxN…uhh
~Third Degree, outstanding as usual!

Thanks to ACF and Shatterday for inviting us out and letting us use your stage! Thanks to all the fans that came and supported and for the uplifting words and just buying something off the merch table…
We(ATN) had a rough week and it was good to cool down with a show like that!
Thanks again and hope to see ya’ll at our next show!

Eastside holmes... [21 Mar 2006|03:45pm]
[ music | Anberlin ]

XXXXX!

So we're driving along at 75mph while pulling a trailer on what we thought was the road to Dzilnahodilhi, NM (aka DZ). We come over this little hill and run a stop sign...no problem since there's no one around. About 40 feet later we're skidding towards a dead end! Someone's life flashed before my eyes as I eased the Beav (truck's name) to a stop. Needless to say, we were lost out in middle of nowhere but if there's a will - there's a way. We found the road to DZ and we were late for the show.

We found that Nason and the rest of the crew were waiting for us. So we set up, it wasn't in record time since we're a little rusty but we got done in like 15 minutes. We went through about 7 songs. Norvin and I started to lose our voices - no monitors - but we soldiered on.

Nason played after us and did are really good job. They get better with each show...you need to watch out for these guys.

Thanks to all who came out, everyone we met, those who bought our merch and those who became fans. Thank you from ATN.

We'll be in Window Rock AZ this weekend (3/25) for the Punk for the Masses show. We'll be at the WRock Flea Market at 11am to (hopefully) share some music and mutton with you guys. Come by and say hi....

Redhand/ATN shirts will be available 3/24!! We'll get a picture posted of the shirts asap. Let us explain the picture - it's not a fallen angel. It's the underlying message in our songs - we'll never be perfect, we will always fail but Christ & His blood will always be there to redeem us. That's what it's all about right?

Grace be yours...

Hey Ho, Let's Go!! [14 Mar 2006|11:57am]
[ music | Lydia :: December ]

Thanks to everyone who came out on 3/10/06 in Albuquerque. The experience was a learning one:
1. Central Ave is not the 'good side of town' on a Friday night.
2. Read into the meaning behind 'chance of snow.'
3. The SolArts is small, very small but it's a cool place to throw down.
Anyway, it was cool to play Albuquerque for the first time. We're working on more shows there and with other bands so we hope to return to the Duke City very soon.

Check this out:
NASON RULES!
Hope to see many, many, many people there. Of course they said it again - chance of snow. But we're going to change it to - chance to go...here's your chance to go...

Check this one out too:
Punk Rawk!

Check this other one out too:
FOOL's FEST!
We hope more people show up to this one because of the great Trisagion machine.

So here's your chance to bring your friends and their friends. We'll have our two CDs, cheap t-shirts, buttons and hopefully a new set of stickers for you to apply to your parent's ride. We're going to stick one on our mom's truck and she won't even see it (if you don't tell her). We might also put one on Deal's truck in May...

3-10-06 - Show went well, Thanks to those that came out and supported ATN in the Duke! For the new listeners hope to see ya soon at our next show! Thanks also to HollowPoint and Sol Arts Theatre! Winds were crazy but we made it!

3-11-06 - Congrats to the Lady Bengals for winning 5-A state! Champs again!!!

3-17-06 - We're headed to Nageezi near Bloomfield to go talk to hot chicks all evening with Nason. No, not really. We're going there to bring the house down with our music and lots of muscles. Chuck bought a muscle shirt for this show already. Norvin and I have to get fitted for ours...

http://www.nason-inc.com/pictures/flyers/ye.web.jpg

3-18-06 - ChucK has to work from 3-7pm...so stop by and harass him at Hot Topic...

After practice on Sunday we were messing around when all the sudden this cool lil bitsy riff came creeping along and introduced itself to Amounting to Nothing. So then we added some words to the song...

"These kings and monsters have become one and the same
Maybe they’re all right; maybe I am the one to blame
Take this knife and proceed to stab me in the back
Then remind me about the faith that you think I lack"

So we're on a roll...the song should be wrapped up by the end of next week and we'll start adding more stuff to it. Sing along and shout the words back to us at our next show!

Take it away... [21 Feb 2006|12:43pm]
[ music | PxOxD~Testify~ ]

Sup people!
So how is every one's day going so far? Well for me(ChucK) I am currently just sitting here staring out the window and not working...

Seems like the past post have been 'lame' for me.

We are heading into what seems like a good summer for ATN. There are many doors that are being opened for us as a band. For about 2 years we've been praying hard to play in the Duke City. Man, prayers...either you have to be a warrior or just pull out and expect God to do the rest...we've been praying for a long time on that. It's really exciting that God is leading the way and we are simply following in what He want's us to do. Spread the message and His love.

I'm excited to play all these shows. For awhile my heart was astraying from the passion of playing. I think it was having this big time gap of no shows and not praticing. I was proved wrong when we practiced this weekend. Man, Saturday practice went alright. We had a lot of mess ups and forgot some cues. So, went home thought about how we could have a better practice...METRONOME...Ahhh, I actually had to dust it off. Then find the BPMs and all set. Sunday rolled around. Practice was tough! Staying in tempo was hard, it's been so long that we've played to a metronome. By the time practice was over, we were ALL satisfied!
Being in time and just having fun brought back the passion and intensity to the music and in my heart. So, if we are in your area come out and support us! Raise your fists in the air and enjoy the music.

We are looking foward to meeting and greeting with all of you and see new faces...

New Tees in stock but are running out FAST! Order your's online or come to our next show!
We also have new buttons that have been made!

Leave a comment of encouragement or if you must a discouragement...we're getting used to it. :)
Be our friend at myspace!!!
Have a great week! And check out the new PxOxD! From what I've heard, it ROXXX!!!

UP THE PUNKS 2006 [23 Jan 2006|10:18am]
[ music | Ramones - Loco Live~ChucK:16 hits of Roy Orbison ]

The punk rock spirit invaded the consciousness of many who attended UP THE REZ PUNKS 2006, which featured a strong lineup of punk rock bands from the reservation and neighboring urban centers, Phoenix and Albuquerque.

UP THE REZ PUNKS 2006 was indeed the first show of 2006 and a signal for great things to come in the spring and summer. This was the show that almost didn't happen, but thanks to the brothers of THIRD DEGREE: Myreon, Tyrone, Harold and Michael, the show materialized to bring the masses CONFLICT RESOLUTION, DOWNPLAY, BLISSINS, LIGHTS OUT!, SOL and AMOUNTING TO NOTHING.

AMOUNTING TO NOTHING executed another solid performance, with precision drumming from Chuck and the always melodious yet powerful guitar chords from Casey. AMOUNTING TO NOTHING is the most modest Navajo band I've met through the years and each performance I've witnessed has always left me blown away.

Their musicianship is best characterized by their opening track, "The Worst Song In The World," from their 2005 album, How To Live Without Dying. A powerful guitar chord opens the song with the emotional vocals from Casey: "What do I have to do to hear those words/How much do I have to bleed before you hold me/Come to me I'll forgive and forget..."

Review by Rick Abasta
Taken from Dine Underground Forum

Thanks to all who came out in support! Sorry about the late start - rez time. Muchas Gracias to Theo from Brilliant Suffering for allowing us to use your vocal chords for our new song. That song totally went to another level when you added your touch...

Yeah this show was a cool one. Even though it was a late start and I was fighting a cold, we poured ourselves out and gave it our all. It doesn't matter if the crowd is like 15 people...it's how much you pour yourself into it!
Thanks for all that came out and supported us and thanks to all the other bands and StrayKat Pro. thanks! See at the next show!

Fire destroys chicken coop

Summit Fire Department responded to a structure fire off Yancey Lane at about noon Thursday. The first engine company to arrive found a 4-by-8 foot chicken coop fully engulfed in fire. Summit Fire put out the fire with three personnel and one engine, according to a news release.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a heat lamp that fell over and started the blaze that killed four chickens; the owner saved the other chickens. Fire was contained to the chicken coop. The well-maintained yard helped stop the fire from spreading to the grass.

Those who have chickens should make sure that their heat lamps are secure and away from combustibles like bedding and straw. Extension cords should also be periodically checked for damage.

Norvin's been sick for the past couple of weeks with a really, really bad cold. He'll be in Zuni with us come Friday night though...coughing & wheezing instead of yelling. We'll try to make it through without losing the intensity of the music.
We may have a surprise in store for you as far as the 1/20 show is concerned. We'll see if she'll agree & then we'll let you know.
We're working on a new design for shirts at the moment through the MyReason Graphics site (www.myspace.com/myreasongraphics). The designs are looking cool and once we agree on one, we'll get the order in. We shooting for a mid-February release on shirts...

Merry New Year! [02 Jan 2006|08:28am]
[ mood | tired ]
[ music | Norma Jean-O God the AfterMath ]

Wow, I woke up this morning and couldn't tell a difference between last week and today. So what's with the whole "New Year" theme? I dunno but Happy New Year to all. My break was pretty short but good. I drove to work this morning on a lonley road while others got to sleep in but oh well. I'm thankful for that. Yeah we played the Winslow show back in December. It was a fun show. The guy that runs the place actually opened his gates so we could pull in there and unload our gear. That was cool. We played and had a good response from a metal crowd. I had blood all over my hands and pants from busting my finger on the snare hoop...it hurt but worth the pain. We got to hear some exciting news from our friends over at Asdza Shush Productions. So keep an ear out for that news!
What else...X-mas day I woke up to an empty house...haha. Everyone was down in Phx while I took care of 'Pubbie'. But that was a fun day!
Had our annual New Year's get together, it was tough. Throughout the whole house there sat an empty chair but no Grandpa to sit in it. It was a hard one this year but we all got through it. Cecil and I played for our family, an acoustic set. They all enjoyed it!
Uh...I think that's about it...oh, we watched Walk the Line for the 3rd time now! Also checked out The Ringer...which I thought coulda done a better job. Wasn't all that funny...I give it a C.
Uh, so yeah have a exciting new year and time to let go of grudges and fueds and start fresh...Me, I think I'm gonna gain wieght instead of losing weight...
~ChucK~

Oh yeah, thanks for the comment on us being Christians...it's nice to know that people love to throw stones...we don't mind. God loves you and so do we...thanks for the support!!! :)

B. HULK [21 Dec 2005|11:18am]
[ music | My American Heart ]

Check this out yo:

"I saw my life flash before my eyes
Both before and after I lived my lies
I searched for an answer that made the most sense
Somewhere between the rise of all the sunsets"

That's the beginning of a new song. There's no music yet but the lyrics are coming to me noggin.

2005 was a good year for Amounting to Nothing. We released 2 EPs and played over 40 stages. We met lots of people and made tons of friends. We gained a trailer for our equipment and a reliable ride to go to shows outside this area. We added some new equipment to our set up such as amps & guitars. We played our first club down in the Tempe AZ and also in Flagstaff AZ. Dar set a new record for cracking his cymbal.

So many things and we're all thanking God for the opportunity to continue into 2006. We are going to start recording a new CD in the winter/spring of 2006. We hope to get that out by the fall. We'd like to play more places and meet more people....there's just tons of things we're planning. Look for new t-shirt designs, beanies, patches and whatever else we can label with ATN.

It's going to be an exciting 2006 and we're glad you can be apart of it.

During this season we hope that you and your family enjoy the life that was brought by a Savior. It's because of Him we have life and it's because of Him we can live without dying.

From all of us in the Amounting to Nothing camp...

p.s. Go bother Chuck at Hot Topic in Gallup...

I hang my head n cry... [12 Dec 2005|07:41am]
[ mood | cheerful ]
[ music | Johnny Cash-Collection 45-LP ]

Good morning people,
Man, what a blast this weekend. This was like the weekend you wish you could turn back time for. Friday nite rolled around and I was excited a whole month for this. Dino and crew opened the acoustic stage strongly. With originals that brought back memory's for me when ATN first started out. Next was Nason, these guys came out with a sound only Nason can give out. These boys were good. The switch off on the vox was a cool surprise. Then Zagadka took stage, they sounded good. Next was Guilty Wilson, this band did a really great job and had a great sound. I loved the Immuculate song. Then we took the stage and played like our hearts desired to long to play. Everytime we play there at the coffee house for some reason I hear angels behind us singing along. It's like we are not alone and the angels dance to our music. People asked after, if we saw the lil boy dancing away during our set. I tell them no, but I bet he saw the angels and danced right along with them. It was a good night. Thanks to the bands that came and supported and all those that came out...

Saturday rolled around. After munching down at Jerry's we headed over to the El and helped with the stage set up. Man, Chris from MACK and his crew deserve props! All the people that had a hand/muscle in this whole event did a fantastic job! The bands came/played and the event got more exciting with Carla opening up, then on to Cycle Cure, Purple Robe wasn't able to make it so we filled in like 3 songs for 15minutes. Had a good response even though it wasn't our time...Then 3 OutKast came and got a great response, next was I believe Marlena, she sounded good and had a good response! Trisagion also did a really good job, very heavy! Brilliant Suffering also screamed out their lungs and did a good job. Then Double Edge came and finished the set of stage two.

The main stage opened with Nason. Good stage presence and very tight sound. These boys came to rock out and they did! Good Job! Mack took the stage with their screaming guitars and nice bass and a touch of drums added. Nice sound as always and great job! Then our turn came, we opened with a different set list and blasted through our set list. But I could not hear the crowd nor see what was going on. But I heard that there was a mosh pit going crazy. One guy went as far as busting his forehead open while in the pit(CJ from Trisagion). We played the Christmas song and had a good response from that. Then the headliners were Guilty Wilson. This band I love to watch everytime we play with them. Just talent, agressiveness and good sound. I loved the Jeremy add in on the last song. All in all it was a night to remember. I had a good time chatting with people and others I met and just had a good time.

Thanks to all that bought our merch, WE SOLD OUT ON THE ACOUSTIC CDs...so I heard...that was cool! Thanks to all that helped out GW and sound crew!!! Thanks to Deal and his lil one... Thanks to all that came and made this into something that we never thought it would turn out to be! God was in our midst and it felt good!

ATN at Winslow this Friday! Come check it out, I believe we are playing around 8pm.

King Kong ain't got nothing on ME! [01 Dec 2005|09:04am]
Last night I was watching the Tooth & Nail DVD from BestBuy. Beloved (US) is on there with a live version of Death to Traitors...it's such a cool song. If you don't have the Beloved CD you need to go get it. It's like Thursday and Norma Jean collided mid-air while doing an insane round-house kick to Chuck's noggin. It's that good...

So a lot of our friends are married, getting married or acting like they're married. I was thinking about what it takes to maintain a relationship or even a friendship for that matter. So I go to the bible and I start reading. I read the prayer that Jesus prayed while he was the Garden before he was arrested (if you ever want to feel loved and appreciated - read that prayer). And a thought occurred to me (or maybe it was the Spirit), Jesus maintained a relationship with His Father through prayer. Prayer is a form of communication. Jesus also got out of the relationship what He put into it. He showed His love for His Father through prayer and His Father showed Him His love daily as well.

So I learned that what you get out of a relationship is actually what you put into it. Many of my friends tell me I'm afraid of marriage or even a serious relationship which might be true...but it's cool to know why some relationships fail. People stop putting themselves into it and they rely on the other person to give more to make up for their shortfall. If that doesn't work they start putting their relationship in compromising situations that can only lead to destruction if there's no arbitration.

So here's the bottomline kids - you want a relationship to work? Than you're going to have to be willing to give more than you're empty words and thoughtless gifts. You're going to have to give them yourself and all that you are - everything good and everything BAD.

...and that's just the beginning of Love.
