A Memory from childhood [07 Jul 2003|10:18am]

Today I was going to see the animals at the pet shop. I am only 12 years old and I clean the animals cages for ice cream cones, hehe. I walked from our apartment building to the local U-Totem. Sugarbooger, works there. He's my moms friend from our building. I got some candy and headed out the door. I started crossing the street, sw 87 ave and 72 st. In the strip mall I am walking to, there is alot of construction. There is only one entrance and exit to the mall. big machines, gravel, holes in the ground are everywhere. I am half way across the street when I hear a loud SMASH. Twisting metal and glass go flying in all directions. I ran back across the street and told Sugarbooger, call the fire department. He thought I was pulling his leg, so he went outside and looked. His eyes were huge. He told me to stay put, he went inside and made his phone call. I walked across the street. There was a white cargo van on 2 wheels. It had hit head on a big boat of a car, a Cadillac. Under the van was a small sports car. I looked to my West, I saw something in the dirt. I walked over to it and bent down. There before my eyes was the head of the man who was driving the sports car. He had a completely shocked look on his face. His eyes were wide open, his face was still moving. I felt such fear, but it wasnt mine. It was his. I put my hands on each side of his head and looked into his frightened eyes. I whispered to him, words I didnt know. For they were not English. Slowly his face relaxed and he was gone. It seemed like hours had passed but it was only moments. I felt a hand grab me and pull me up. I turned and it was a cop. He picked me up and carried me over to the side of the strip mall, where he proceeded to vomit his stomach contents out all over the ground. I couldnt help but to laugh. It amused me. I think I saw a doughnut or two. He was as green as the grass. I wondered what had made him so sick. Later that day my mother took me to the doctors. She loved this Doctor even though he was married. She got a prescription for me, yeah right, so I would sleep. They were small blue pills. Well she gave me one and she took two. I didnt sleep but she certainly did. The man who had passed earlier in the day came back to me in a whisper. He thanked me for staying with him. I felt alot of love from him. The room glowed with a golden light, then it was dark. I sat there all night looking up at the stars out my bedroom window. This was the first introduction to death for me. Little did I know that death would play such a prominent role in my life. You might ask yourself, Is this true? Yes indeed, this is quite true and was very real.
