eve 6 "without you here" |
] |
without you here, I feel my fear, too scared to pray, my eyes too dilated to see, without you here, I feel my fear, without you here, I feel my fear.
See these little babes? They are critically endangered. Fewer than 75 are left in the entire world. They are known as yellow-eared parrots. They live strictly in Bogota, Columbia, on wax palms which grow on the misty flanks of the Andes Mountains to heights of 225 feet. Why am I spending time to type this all out in my journal for your pretty little eyes to see? Because, if you are religious or you know someone who is religious, you can make or break this little birdies lifeline.
Roman Catholic Churches and etc, normally use only wax frond palms. 22 churches in the good ol' usa are using environementally sustainable palms from Guatemala and Mexico for their Palm sunday services.
More than 300 million Palm Fronds are harvested for the USA alone. Many Christians celebrate palm sunday, unknowingly that the greenery around them may have come from an endangered yellow eared parrot habitat.
The new plan is to buy certified palms from communities using susitainable forestery practices. For centuries Colombians used the fronds of the wax palm for palm sunday to commerate jesus' entry into jerusalem, where residents greeted him by waving palm fronds.
When Colombian peasents cut off the fronds from young wax palms - colombia's national tree - to sell to worshippers, the trees die or their growth is massively stunted. This practice has led to a dramatic thinning of the towering palms.
A top colombian cleric said its important for the church to join with the environmental groups and governent agencies to promote use of other palms and save the bright yellow and green parrots.
Then there was this slogan, and it reads:"God Pardons always, man pardons sometimes, but nature never does. Every abuse of nature you pay for, soon or later."
So however, today is palm sunday, but if you are involved with your church, perhaps you could discuss this idea with them.
Peace ;)
Ps. For more info, just type in the parrots name in google.
