Background Data
Family: Has a mother and a father. Nobody knows if they are still alive, it could be that they just like to forget they ever had a son named Gilderoy... Both parents were/are pure blood.
Family History: Lockhart doesn't remember anything of it, but it was a happy childhood with much loving from his mummy (he was a mother's baby)
Extended History: Was a famous writer who wrote fantasy stories pretending to be the real stories and pretending to be the hero in it. (In fact others had done these heroic deeds)
Everybody has read/seen the Chamber of secrets story, so I'm not going to write it down.
After that accident with Ron's wand, Gilderoy had lost his memory completely. He has no idea who he was or where he was. Therefore he was sent to st. Mungo's. There he read the books he had written earlier. He started to believe every word of it, but still had no memory of any of those actions. He even started to write a new book called Who am I, which became a number one selling book.
After a stay of 2 years there, the nurses decided to dismiss him. With or without memory, Gilderoy was still the person who he always was. Dumbledore however didn't believe he would survive on his own, he also felt kind of responsible of what had happened to Lockhart (after all, it was him who asked him to come to hogwart's to be the new DADA teacher), so Dumbledore invited him to stay at Hogwart's.
Gilderoy has no idea he was a fraud.
Conclusion: I do like to give a word in is behalf, because he believes every word he once has written, Gilderoy tries to act that way. He also is working very hard on his study of spells and hexes, because he was very good at those (according to his books). He's a coward, but because he was a hero in his books, he tries to be one.
He's trying folks! He really is!
But other than that: He hasn't changes a bit! He's still that not-good-for-anything-I'd-like-to-hit-him-senseless git. ((OOC: and he's here for your enjoyment: Insult him and he probably will think you've given him a compliment. Spank him if you like, but beware! He might like it.)
