Batman - The Dark Knight Returns and Batman - The Dark Knight Strikes Again by Frank Miller, illustrated by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson with Lynn Varley (read these - whether you like comics or not, it's worth it).
As many Alan Moore Swamp Thing comics as Essential Vertigo reprinted - but there's a graphic novel... hmmmm...
