| About: | What is our name? Badfic in Review. The members of Badfic are diverse, but we are all united by a common bond: we read fanfiction. Most of us are highly educated and have some modicum of formal training in writing fiction, but not all of us. We are a group of avid fanfiction readers with a passion for good fanfic and a terrible lingering distaste for the bad fanfic.
What is our quest? Our mission is a simple one: to root out bad fanfiction and report on its badness so that the rest of the fanfic-reading community knows to avoid it in the future. We tend to be a critical and snarky lot when it comes to bad fanfiction, but this can be chalked up to over-exposure.
What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? Between 40-50 mph. (From the Audobon Society Encyclopedia of North American Birds)
There are a few basic rules to follow when posting to this community:
1. Be specific, and be rational. Posts that amount to "This fic sux0rs!!1111" or degenerate into personal attacks on the author will be deleted. If a user persists in making these sort of posts, they will be banned. Save the wank wars for the comment section, not the main post section.
2. Because we are pointing out the bad elements of a fic in our reviews, explain specifically WHY it is bad. We will probably be getting badfic authors on the board eventually, and if any of them are actually interested in improving their craft, do some public service and explain why a fic is bad. Also, why aren't you pointing out why a fic is bad? Being able to point out exactly WHY someone is messing up is part of the fun, dammit!
3. Don't knock lifestyle factors unless they're really out-of-character. This applies to fics involving homosexuality, mostly. Rejecting a fic solely on the premise that "OMG! Heero can't be gay, he lurves Relena!" is baseless. Relationshipping is strictly prohibited. The only couples reviewers are authorized to rant about are the canonical ones. And I'm not talking the canonical "Tifa and Cloud really seem to like each other at the end of the game, and everyone knows they had sex before the North Crater!", I'm talking canonical "Yuna was the first Final Fantasy heroine to actually admit that she loved a man.. and get him to show her affection too!"

Fandom: This is a FANFICTION review site. Please no bad published fiction or original fiction.
SCORES:
PLOT: X/5 (overall story idea, the actual events of the tale)
CHARACTERIZATION: X/5 (how well the canon characters stayed true to their characterizations, and how well any original characters were developed on their own)
TECHNICAL: X/5 (covers things like grammar, spelling, and rhetorical choices)
YOUR CATEGORY HERE: X/5 (see the other posts for examples. pick your own category and rate it)
The main body of the review should be hidden behind a cut tag (that's <lj-cut text="whatever you wanna say"> the body of review </lj-cut> for the Livejournal Tag retarded) but you can add a little introduction before the scoring section if the mood strikes. Again, see the posts on the community if you have questions with what is and isn't appropriate.
