With a little help from Esquire magazine, Ali hustled her way into Hollywood, and then proved that she had the skills to stay there. Her performances since, in films such as Final Destination and Varsity Blues, gave her a rep as an actress with the Midas touch -- and it seems that everything she touches turns to gold.
I was born Alison Gertrude Larter, on February 28, 1976. For those of you too lazy to do the math, that makes me 27. Riding with the big boys. I have a younger sister named Kristen, and two of the most wonderful parents in the world, (Mina - a nurse, and Peter - an architect) who have been married for 33 years. I was raised in Cherry Hill, NJ, where I grew up as the toughest tomboy you'd ever meet. That is, until I turned 13, grew some inches, and hit puberty. A year later I was signed by the Ford Modeling Agency.
I didn't even finish my Senior year of high school - modeling consumed my life. I was so lucky to have my mom come everywhere with me until I turned 18; and only then did she let me go out on my own. For the next two years, I lived and worked in Australia, Japan, and Italy. In 1998, Amy [ Smart, one of my best friends ], convinced me to audition for the teen football movie Varsity Blues. That started a tremendous chain reaction, and a string of lead roles came to me after it.
I'd been living in Los Angeles since 1998, until I decided on a whim to move back to the East Coast, and settle down in New York. I wanted to take control of my life, and make myself available to do live theatre and to become part of New York's independent film community. In 2001, I was in The Vagina Monologues. I wished to do more theatre and to do much deeper, more meaningful roles in films; and that means going the independent route.
As for now, I'm still working in the independent film community. My latest film, Three Way Split is in production in Los Angeles. We've only been filming for 2 months, but it's coming along. I live in an extraordinary apartment in Midtown with two of the greatest girls on the Earth, and our little mini-me. I've got the most amazing brother a girl could want, I've got my flaming boys to watch out for me, and a midget to entertain me when I'm down. What more can a girl ask for, really?
