why are people so scared of spiders?
So I got pulled over this morning. Not a big deal, I was in fact speeding. It's just annoying because the road seems to be more of a 50mph road, not a 35mph. The officer was nice enough, and gave me 10 over instead of 15 over like I was going, but after he gave me the ticket and was leaving he goes "I hope you have a better day." I wasn't really having a bad day to begin with. And he's definitly not important enough to ruin my day.

Yesterday there was a spider infestation in my bathroom. It was an all out war between me and my mom against the spiders. I was taking a shower and noticed one on the ledge above the shower, but it wasn't moving. So I'm thinking "ok, we can live peacefully together as long as neither one of us bothers each other." Then he started to move. He ruined the deal! So I screamed, and threw on a towel and my mom came in to kill it, along with killing another spider while she was at it. So I was thinking after she left "that would be so gross if there was a spider in the towel that I just put on." So I went to adjust my towel, and in the mirror I saw a huge spider in it! On the me-side of the towel!! It was touching me, and doing who knows what else to my back side! So I screamed once again, threw the towel down, put another one on (this time shook it out to make sure), and my mom came running in again. She came in the bathroom, closed the door (I was waiting outside in the laundry room) and all I heard was this banging, and a bit of squeeling, then she rushed out with a huge pile of towels in her hands saying she got it.

I'm just a little paranoid using my bathroom now, though. Bugs hiding in towels that are hung up is definitly against the rules. I can understand if it goes in one that's laying on the ground, but I take the time to hang my towels up to dry, it should take the time to find another nesting spot.

To answer Sara's question, yes, I am dying right now, as I type. Sick.

I have always been hesitant to use that bathroom because of the spider infestation, but now I'm pretty sure I will never go in it again.

And I know exactly what you mean about the "rules". When I lived in Orem a spider (which I named Jerry because he followed all my rules and we became tight) lived on the ceiling at the top of the stairs to the basement in Karen's house. His rules were as follows: 1) You are never allowed to leave that spot. 2) You are not allowed to move at all, your legs are creepy. 3) You are not allowed to have friends over. 4) You are not allowed to tell anyone of our arrangement. The rewards for following the rules: 1) I will say "hi" to you every morning when I come up the stairs. 2) I will give you a name. Consequences for breaking any of the rules: 1) You will become Truman's toy, after which you will become her snack. Jerry was excellent at following the rules until one day I came up the stairs and saw him scampering underneath the door that goes into the garage. I was somewhat ok with this because that meant he was leaving the house. A few weeks later another spider moved in on the opposite side of the ceiling as Jerry. He was even better then Jerry because he actually died a few days later and was just stuck to the wall. I named him Montague. Can anyone tell that I was bored and lonely??

I believe what Ammon is referring to is when they are in the car together and Martin Lawrence says to Tim Robbins, "there's a spider on your motherf---ing head" and Tim Robbins goes, "what is that, some sort of street talk" and Martin Lawrence goes, "No, there's a spider on your motherf---ing head."

It is hilarious.

If anyone has a movie suggestion like Nothing To Lose (i.e. you have low expectations but it is freaking hilarious), I'd appreciate it.

in that case i'd recommend any martin lawrence movie (minus the "bad boys" movies). they're surprisingly hillarious. also "music and lyrics" because there's an awesome music video staring hugh grant. have you seen the tenacious d movie yet? i haven't and it really could go either way.

I assume you are not including the "Big Mama" series.

We saw Music & Lyrics a couple of weeks ago - actually we own it, because it was the same price to own or rent on amazon unbox for some promotion. I thought the music was awesome, and especially the first music video.

WHAT!?!? When did I say that Big Mama, let alone the whole series was funny? I was forced to watch Big Mama at my sister in law's house during a weekend trip to Idaho Falls (it takes 13 hours to get there) that I did not want to go on. Oh, and did I mention that at the time I was on Paxil and forgot it at home?? Trust me, there was nothing funny about that weekend. So actually, the movie might have been hilarious. But I doubt it.

This is one of the funniest things I've ever read, for some reason.

Anyway, since the "event" (see the entry I just posted), we have been just mindlessly watching News Radio straight through. We're on the 3rd season. Good show.

I LOVE News Radio. It was one of the rare shows I religiously watched pre-TiVo (which now I don't even see how that's possible, but whatever).

Other ideas I thought of are Monty Python (anything really, but Flying Circus gives a good variety - I have a few of the DVD's if you'd like to borrow them), and pretty much anything on Animal Planet (EXCEPT Animal Precinct, which I think goes without saying). Animals always make me happy. Even The Planet's Funniest Animals, which is super cheesey, and has a really annoying host is fun to watch when you need mindless entertainment. Plus there's a lot of inter-species cuddling, which you know I love. Oh, and SNL: The Best of Will Farrel. And if you're in the mood to read, anything by David Sedaris (obviously), that Devil in the Details book I mentioned in one of my posts last year (can't remember the author, but Erica probably does), and Steve Martin's The Pleasure of My Company is really sweet/cute/funny, and a quick and easy read. Ok I just realized that all book suggestions are about or written by OCD's. I'm obsessive compulsive about people who are obsessive compulsive.

Thanks for the suggestions. I LOVE every aspect of Planet's Funniest Animals, INCLUDING the host, and Ammon can attest to this. I haven't seen it in ages since I never watch live TV anymore. I should set it up to TiVo because I think TiVo stopped suggesting it since I never watched it and it hurt TiVo's feelings. Summer TV is so dismal.

I heard a really good This American Life that had the David Sedaris story about being OCD as a kid. The show also had a reading from the book Girl Interrupted, which I was never interested in reading, but the excerpt was really good. So you'll probably want to check that out, although I can't promise it will deal exclusively with OCD.

Wait, do you like the new host or the old host?? Because I really loved the old host (I believe his name was Matt Gallant...or Mike...I just know his last name was Gallant because of a piece he did on the show that I found absolutely hilarious, but unfortunately is too complicated and drawn out to type here), but now there is a new guy, and it just isn't the same. Although he is pretty good looking. I will give him that.

I used to also watch Amazing Animal Stories constantly because Ellen DeGeneres once RAVED about it on her show, and I have to say, they truly are amazing. But I would definitely expect to cry. A lot. But it is a heart-warming cry, not a sad cry. Plus Alan Thicke is the host, can't go wrong there.

I agree, summer TV is so boring, but Tom and I are obsessed with So You Think You Can Dance. I know you said you couldn't stand the American Idol auditions anymore since they were so sad, but the audition part of this show is over and they are on to the top 20 (starting tomorrow!). I really can't say enough good things about it - I actually like it more then American Idol. It's on Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox. I especially love the break dancers and the poppers - it's like it's special effects! How do they DO that???

Oh. I didn't realize Matt had left. That's so sad. I also love amazing animal stories, but it can be too much. My all time favorite Animal Planet show is Cell Dogs, and they don't show it anymore. There will be tears with that one too.

I'll check out SYTYCD. In fact, I'm going to schedule it from TiVo central right here on the computer so I don't have to move my ass over to the TV.

don't read girl interrupted if you wind mindless reading. especially if you're depressed. it'll make you think you have borderline personality disorder, then you'll realize that's just silly, but go online and start diagnosing yourself with a bunch of other disorders.

oh, devil in the details is by jennifer traig. very funny. also, i just bought another book but curtis sittenfeld. i think it's the man of my dreams. probably, that seems to be a theme in my life right now. i haven't started reading it though. currently i'm reading the color code by dr. taylor hartman. soooo interesting! you take this test, then it tells you what color you are and about your personality and stuff. and the best part is, it's written by a doctor (of psychology i think) so it's not like dumb, pointless personality test stuff. there's actually a point to it, being you are a specific color and you should embrace that (good and bad qualities) then you can learn to add qualities you like about the other colors, which makes you a whole, healthy person.
