In many ways I wish I could be back in Utah for a proper rebellion, someday it might still happen. These "For your own good" laws are far beyond rediculous. For your own good, turns out to be a euphamysm, it really means "For OUR own good". I'll say here what I have said before. I love Utah, a lot, I miss it for many reasons and don't for many others. It is a shame that it's a horrible place to raise a family outside of the church. Because if you aren't LDS then you face a life of torment and frequent beatings (More common in rural areas) I know, I had eighteen years of it. For a lot of people that's hard to understand having never really been there. But, it's also hard for many of us to understand the victims of Stalin's Russia, or Hitlers Germany, having never been there. In a place such as Utah, the separation of church and state IS in the purest form of IMPOSSIBLE. Nearly ALL members of congressional Utah belong to the church. They take their personal feelings to the voting forum regardless of how the public feels. They do not think of how it will affect the people they govern. It's an Authoritarian society that must be put in its place. It must be put in check by the people who are fed up with its absurd rules and regulations that apply to everyone who chooses to live in Utah. They benefit only a very small fraction and hurts the rest one way or another. They even affect those of us who don't live there anymore but have family and friends who, by the very words of the Book Of Mormon, are "Whores, Harlottes and a part of the church of the abomination". They choose to live there and choose to not become members of the church and are harrassed because of it. There are a lot of us out here who have been ostricised and victimised by the church over the years, it's about time we all took a stand. My brother is ten years old and living in rural Utah with the rest of my family. He is at that special age where all kids start defining their place in society. I was about the same age when the -beatings commenced-, I don't want the same thing to happen to him. The church does indeed have its place in the world like everything else, but it doesn't have to be ALL OVER THE PLACE in EVERYONES business.

That's cool and all. But, I must encourage you to keep an open mind the best you can and also believe in whatever you want to believe in and have opinions of your own. Remember not ALL Mormons are pricks, there are some genuinly good people that are a part of the church. As for me, I have friends who are LDS and two sisters who are converts. One is a little weird but she still respects my beliefs and my decisions and I respect hers. Like anyone who belongs to any faith or not, if they respect me then I respect them back. If you want to get to know me and what I am about then I invite you to read my journal. There are pictures and stuff of me in there, just follow the appropriate links.

I don't think a rebellion would be any good. Because the majority will always be the same. How boring is that!

I just ran into the utahrebels community and I am very interested in what you have posted. Did you really get beat up physically? I can't imagine!!! Anyway, I grew up in an LDS family, and it wasn't bad, but my whole life, it just wasn't something I wanted. My family is great, and they except the fact that I don't care about what they beleive in. But I'm sorry that you have had such a bad experience with it! That wouldn't be the reason you left Utah, would it?

Well, I mainly left Utah because my foolish heart fell in love with whom I thought was the perfect girl, biggest mistake. At that time I thought it would have been good to also get away from the oppression. I had my ass beaten within inches of my life purely for the fact that I did not belong to or believe in the LDS church. I don't blame the church itself for that necessarily, maybe for influencial reasons. I mostly blame the radical individuals who felt it was within their duty as "good" Mormons to oppress the heathens. I wasn't TOO different, not much in appearance and other things that influence such behavior. This is much more common in the rural areas where people are far more sheltered and isolated.

For some reason, I feel like I should be apologizing to you! But I am sorry that you had to go through that as a child! I probably would have left too, girl or not!

Well, it certainly wasn't your fault, but thanks just the same =). I know full well that there are many lovely members of the church who go about it the way it should be. There are many things that I miss about Utah, things that I find would be worth while making the journey back. But things happen for a good reason.

I am a member, but have never been anywhere near UTAH. I live in australia where we ge tormented for being members, so it's kinda funny really. I would never have imagined that you would get beat up for not being a member in UTAH, it always made out to be so perfect, and beatings kinda go against the mission of the church... so does oppression, so it kinda makes me wonder whats going on over there. I'm sorry that you have had that experience and I am also appreciative that you have acknowledged that we aren't all bad.... I have seen it here, people who are a bit naughty , i mean, however I believe it's the people that are corrupt- not the religion- but Im not here to bible bash you either

I agree with you that it's certain people who are corrupt. I know that the teachings of the church don't include full out ostricization of non-members, atleast not in any text I have read through so far. But in all fairness it's like that with any church, some more extreme than others. All throughout history it's been just that, persecution of those who don't belong like the Inquisition for example. But in my case it was the LDS church verses me and I'm sure it happens to others who aren't members. Oh well, that's life, or something like it. I certainly don't dwell on it now, I have bigger issues and better issues to deal with.
