Dear Lis, I never forgot you Like the sky - Pale blue white And smothered in haze Faint memories stashed Of a life gone by When journals, verses Letters and lust Were burnt to ash Floating upon the wind Propelling you away I learnt to live devoid I replaced you With countless names and faces I chiselled over your scent Your laughter And your freckles Until they were no more How swiftly a scribbled name Mirrored against a return address Turns a heart To a haemorrhaging mess Strangled and Gasping for oxygen Slowly then suddenly There are no four walls To watch my shadow dance; No car seat I would rather ride in; Than yours, with you I would throw it all away - All that has been written And all yet to be written Just to run my fingers Over the pale blue white haze Of your veins I wonder if this time Will you still say no - Waving undoubtedly As a red rag before a bull Without breath Surpassing your lips I’m falling Into the familiarity of falling Ignorantly breathing A foreign yet gentle air I wonder if you know (You’ve always known me too well) So now I’m asking Instead of waiting Tell me what you see (Not me Never me It was never me). xo from the girl who it will never be |
