My sister Darlene called me this past Friday while my husband and I had just gotten to the restaurant. It was a quick conversation. Basically, she asked if I had a deck of tarot cards she could borrow for a Halloween party she was going to the next day. I told her I did, she asked what time I would get home from work the next day and I told between 1pm and 1:30pm. She said she'd be at my house around then. I got home from work and had to dig through my closet. Please, realize that closet is jam packed and I had a ton of stuff to pull out before I could get to the box the tarot cards were in. Then I put everything back in the closet. A little after 2pm, she still hadn't shown up so I called her. She then informed me that she didn't need them after all and "what are your plans for today"? I was not a happy camper but I knew if I spoke up then I would say something I would regret so I just replied that I was going to take a nap and I got the off the phone very abruptly. [sigh] She knows I nap on Saturday afternoons and I couldn't believe she wouldn't have at least texted me that she didn't need the cards. The fact that I spent about 30 minutes finding them and then putting stuff back in my closet for nothing didn't help. [sigh]

On a more positive note: Today was a perfect autumn day. It was warm in the sun and a slight breeze and the little bit of a breeze. I could go for more days like this.

Biting your lip was definitely the most politically expedient thing to do - it's a bit off to say you're coming round and then leave your host-to-be with that impression even after you've changed your mind. I doubt I would have been so restrained.
