I may not be a Trekkie
A few comments on the Trek quotations I found on the other blog I ran into...

"Emotions are alien to me. I'm a scientist."
-- Spock, "This Side of Paradise", stardate 3417.3
So is it a problem if I am an "unemotional" scientist, yet an "emotional" female? What does that make me? Quasi-emotional? I must say, that is far better than either extreme...

"Evil does seek to maintain power by suppressing the truth."
    "Or by misleading the innocent."
-- Spock and McCoy, "And The Children Shall Lead",
    stardate 5029.5.
I just thought that this spoke truth on so many levels, so decided to share.

Two trek quotes, making three total, I can't stay out of this forever, especially considering you're quoting Spock, one of my favorties :) (those who know me will easily guess why)

Regarding the first quote; my opinion: I'm sorry, being emotional only makes you human. While science is most effective when it is emotionless, but to deny ones own emotions entirely, can only hurt you in the end. I (this may be a little odd) think emotions must be acted on, but can be acted on rationally. Ie: we can't be Vulcan like Spock and deny emotion altogether, but we can control the reactions we give to emotion. Our actions must react to our emotions, but I believe we can do so in a rational manner.

Second quote (:P) I'm not so sure those two ideas are different.

That reminds me of my all-time favourite Kirk-Spock conversation: (from Star Trek VI, which DOES exist)

S - Captain, are you and I so old and inflexible, that we have outlived our usefulness? Would that not constitute a joke?
K - Spock, don't be so hard on yourself. After all, you're only human.
S - Captain, you are forgetting, I am not human.
K - You wanna know something Spock? Everyone's human!
S - I find that remark... insulting!
