    Another short story
    This time its about mermaids!

    Jumping and splashing, the
Slippery mermaids moved through the water. Their bodies were oily and wet, mottled grey and green scales covering their lower half reaching up to pale, clammy skin. Their eyes were round and pure white.
Out of water their long white hair stuck to them and sat unkempt. Underwater it flowed around like a living being. Some of them had shells and stones stung around their necks. Their hands were webbed.

The sailor’s goggled at them with lustful, yearning eyes and some fell from the sides of their boats they had strained so far over. The others did not notice.

Then the mermaids began to sing the sirens call. The creeping melody of whale call and the pulse of the ocean reached the men’s ears. The steady beat of the waves as they hit the shore, the whistling dolphin and the sound of a crab as it scuttles across the sand. The heartbeat of water in one long eerie song.

Eventually the sailors began to throw themselves into the water to reach the heavenly creatures who called to them. Each tried but the strong current pulled them away and one by one they drowned.

    Only one
Reached his prize and the mermaids reached out to him with beckoning hands, arms outstretched in encouragement and love. Gasping and panting he fell into the waiting arms of his nearest goddess who looked down upon him with a watery smile.

Sitting like dolls upon rocks they pulled him to safety and embraced him amongst them. The sailor drank in their in appearance like a starved man and heard nothing outside their soft whispers. Hands groping in desire he looked to fill his appetite, yearning so desperately for the soft, cold flesh of his saviours, hands reaching, touching.

Swarming around him, he was soon engulfed by the writhing bodies of the mermaids as they slowly slipped into the water, bringing him along with them, no longer visible under a flurry of tail fins and sleek white hair.

    “Drown”
said the last mermaid to dive, as she watching the sailor sink deeper and deeper into the black water, malice glinting in her face, eyes cold, expressionless and white. Then she too slipped into the depths to join her sisters, pointed teeth shining in the light momentarily as she smiled a horrible smile.
