BATG part II
So it's called Beauty and the Geek, not Geeks. The parallelism makes more sense, I suppose, but Geeks sounds more like Beast so for that reason, I prefer it.
Another great show this week! I told you the 5.0 MIT guy was a catch - did you see the bustier he sewed for his weirdo, possibly high on quaaludes this week, partner? She was the only one who could actually wear the costume he sewed and didn't have to wear her own clothes underneath so it wouldn't be pornographic. Sewing is super difficult if you don't know how, so I can't imagine that the geeks didn't actually have someone off-camera helping them (there would be no way they could accurately thread the thread through all the sewing machine parts otherwise), but still, I'm impressed - with the MIT guy that is.
Did you notice how Nicole (female geek) went back to looking the exact same after her makeover? This is because she suffers from the same problem as most female geeks and that is her refusal to wear makeup!! What else do all those nerd-to-beauty high school shows teach us other than all a girl needs to look pretty is to get rid of her glasses, get a decent haircut and wear makeup?!?! (optional in real life but required on said shows: throw on some slutty clothes). For the most part it's really true! Some geeks could also benefit from a good eyebrow waxing or at least plucking and a deep conditioning treatment, but come on, it's not that hard. The producers need to get Carmondy out there to help Nicole. The thing is she has an advantage over the other geeks because as a woman, there is no way to entirely avoid pop culture the likes of Cosmo, etc.
Last comment: Jasmine's super hero!!! Totally and utterly hilarious. I love that the judges just laughed at her freely and she had no idea that they were mocking her. I also love that they gave her a shout out since it was the "most entertaining thing ever" and she was genuinely pleased. This exposes a deep-rooted fear of mine, which is that any time I get a complement or someone laughs at a joke of mine, that they are really being sarcastic or mocking me in some way. I can't bear the thought of being a Jasmine!! Another example of this - Sanjaya on American Idol. The week he sang Satisfaction (I think), Simon said "fantastic" or some such thing in a super sarcastic voice because he'd given up giving criticism, and Sanjaya said all genuinely and sweetly, "thank you!" and looked like he may cry, he was so touched.
On the other hand, back to the show- Sam (male beauty) put on a performance that was completely self-assured and could have resulted in the same problem, but his was actually good and maybe even a tinge ironic. The self-tanner was genius (Ammon thinks that Nicole therefore came up with it).

Sam's thing was sadly really the best one (well Jasmine's was, but for reasons Heather pointed out --- also, I feel the LARPER should be given some credit since he spent 16 hours making a costume that looked like it had been cut out of construction paper.). But Sam is like the definition of asshole macho guy. It made me sad that his really was the best.

I have a love-hate relationship with Sam because obviously he is a conceited, pompous ass, but it is so hilarious that there are actually people THAT in love with themselves in real life, and not just in 80's high school movies. When he was doing is crazy dance moves and saying "Deflect it back at you!", and "Laser Beam Shot!" I was seriously crying I was laughing so hard. It's sad that he is so good because it makes him believe all his conceited comments even more ("I'm like the super hero of this house.").
I really like Nicole, she is so nice. She was even trying to help all the other geeks with their sewing. I agree though, she definitely needs some make up help, and maybe some of that spray tan. The thing is she is really a natural beauty, so she just needs a teeny bit of blush and mascara and maybe lip gloss and she would look great. She definitely doesn't have the horrible acne problem that Will has.
I LOVE the MIT guy, I was seriously shocked when he brought up that bustier. But you're right, his partner is crazy/totally high. For some reason Tom really likes her, but I have yet to figure out why. I'm kind of sad that Erin is gone because she would say some pretty hilarious things ("The only thing I know about comic books is that there are all those bubbles and I never know which one to read first").
Did you see the preview for next week's Mexican getaway? I love Joshua.(Reply to this) (Thread) |

Why is nobody commenting on the fact that when Sam was flushing out his super powers, one of his powers was going to be "impregnating women and having them give birth in like 5 minutes"? That was quite possibly one of the greatest things I've heard on that show so far. I'm not sure my feelings about Sam because I'm still suspicious that he is just an act. . .he's a character named Sam not a real guy named Sam. I honestly can't believe he won with that break-dancing nonsense.
I painfully realized that Jasmine has totally grown on me and won me over, I think her blissful ignorance is infectious and I sort of wish I could just live a week like her.
Also, I have a moral problem with the sewing challenge on the basis that I can guarantee you those beauties don't know how to sew. The point of the show is to make the Geeks learn what Beauties know and vice-versa--I call shenanigans. Was I the only one who was surprised the LARPer didn't know how to sew? Does he buy his tabards off the rack?
Lastly, I'm convinced the cigar model was at one point a man.

Ok I've never seen this show so I had to go to the CW website (that's the most embarrassing thing I've said today) to look at their profiles and they are totally funny.
The guy from MIT lists "drinking coffee" as one of this two hobbies.
They also ask "where will you be in 5 years" and one says "I don't know what I'm doing Friday."
Hilarious. (Reply to this) (Thread) |
