    TV
Now back to my main topic of conversation, television. We missed Beauty and the Geeks last week, due to a technical malfunction with the satellite dish, TiVo or verizon, or most likely, some combination of the three. It angered me enough that we are switching back to Comcast (well that and Elena crying because Dora didn't tape properly during a storm and me not knowing how to deal). Apparently if you just keep bouncing back between them as we have, you get the best deals. Anyway, we watched this week's episode last night and it was a winner! I was waiting for the makeover episode and am relieved it wasn't the one we had missed. Can I just say up front that I knew the cute one and the second cutest one were attractive? Yes siree, and Jennette can back me up on this. The second cutest one (don't know his name, but he came out right before the cute prom king one) looks almost exactly like Josh K., whose last name I won't use here to protect both him and the woman who loves him.* They have the same lame-o flat-top haircut. Hopefully Josh watches the show and will be inspired to get a better haircut himself. Or maybe his sister-girlfriend will see it and tell him. I think we can all agree that it was pretty obvious that the cute one would win the prom king thing. I did think Josh (the really neurotic one who refused to take part in the Rorschach test) had an outside chance of winning, just for kitsch value. My favorite part was that two of the the beauties didn't get to go and they had to be all nervous that they weren't going to be asked. How's that for a taste of your own medicine! Ha! Also I hate Sam (the male beauty) and love how his partner snatched up the cute geek right away.** I also love how the Larper has a crush on the female geek and she clearly has no interest in him but he doesn't see it. And also doesn't see how Larping is not interesting to fake high school prom attendants. Ammon thinks the Larper is an awesome character but he is just too disturbing to me. And D&D is no laughing matter.*** By the way, he looked EXACTLY like Meatloaf when he did his makeover reveal. It's sad that when you look good, you look like Meatloaf.

After the teaching challenge, I'm starting to think Jasmine (girl of unclear ethnicity) isn't really the dumbest one, she just acts the dumbest. Every person who taught math (as in, "what is arithmetic?") was waay dumber. Well, now that I'm remembering how Jasmine can't read, I'm conflicted. Nonetheless, she seemed pretty good with kids, which is good since her career is "babysitter." I think the cigar model is in fact the dumbest. And she has the most disturbing boobs too. I mean, every girl on there has ginormous breasts, but I think her implants didn't take properly. Oh I also think the one who got out is super dumb. I love how she said, "well, if I get out, I know I've done the best I can," but she was the one who wanted to go hot tubbing and never studied. The male beauty, though I despise him, was way more deserving of staying in. Oh, but I was impressed that she answered the math question right. I think they should have made her partner answer his last question so they could see whether it was entirely her fault that they got out.

OK, I was also planning on talking about Dirty Sexy Money, but I have to get a tiny bit more work done before I leave for the day. So stay tuned.

By the way, when does Amazing Race start again? Where's Brett and his color-coded fall lineup chart when you need him?

    * Erica, I'm talking about you. And you know who I mean.

** He's a real catch - and I mean that - not only is he seriously attractive now that you can see his face, he has a 5.0 at MIT. And his personality doesn't seem cripplingly awkward.

*** By this I do not mean that it should be taken seriously. No, I mean that it should not be discussed at all even in a joking way because then I am scared that you play D&D and I will have to disown you as my friend. Ammon gets a free pass because he hasn't played since age 12 or whatever, but I still get uncomfortable at the thought of being married to a D&D player. At least there was no live action involved.

Sadly, I think it was more like 14 that I stopped playing. And I played pretty much for two years straight from 8-10 years old. To be honest, I like to think about myself like the MIT guy, except for the very good looking and 5.0 at MIT part. But at least I know how to take a Rorschach test.

This reminds me of a time in college when you left for a 24 hour period to play D&D with Jed and his 45-year-old buddies. I can't believe you would take such a risk in our relationship, but you're lucky I guess! I believe you were 18 or 19 at the time....

I love the 5.0 MIT guy, every time they show that on screen I say, "That is amazing," and Tom says, "How is that even possible?" He is definitely a catch - I hope the girl geek hooks up with him because I really like her.

Speaking of, it's kind of good that you missed the last one because she had a really horrid experience involving Sam (who I despise) and Rebecca (who I despise even more - but is thankfully gone) hooking up on the bunk above her. As she put it, "I woke up and I could tell that they were....together...up there." It was so sad, she left her room and slept on the floor in the common area, and was crying and saying how she was so embarrased for her professors to see this. To be fair to Sam he felt really terrible and apologized (Rebecca didn't care and is an evil bitch).

1. D&D players are the most hilarious thing that has ever happened, EVER. When I worked as a barista at Wizards of the Coast Corporate they were so wealthy (due to Pokemon) that they had a breakroom/cafeteria the size of a small gym..which is where our cafe was. They had all these tables set up for gaming too. The D&D players were the most entertaining because they would yell at us if they thought we were helping their opponents...this still doesn't make sense to me as I don't understand the rules. And one of them looked sort of like a hippy Rasputin. We took a guess at his age once because he kept trying to make me go to Portland to an Ani DiFranco concert with him. I thought he was 36, Julie guess 48, and Stacia 45. He was 25. Also it was like watching 90210 because all the employees were about 27 but still acted like high schoolers. The "jocks" aka "marketing and sales" would play pool and air hockey. The "stoners" aka "it department" would hang out with us and/or actually get stoned in their cars. The "nerds" aka "gamers" aka "product development and testing" played d&d or Magic. The "gays" aka "I have no idea what your job is here" just made me laugh. I'm not sure why I typed all of that...nostalgia I guess.

2. When Jennette swears it cracks me up because it's always very matter of fact.

I'm fascinated and slightly scared at the idea of working for Wizards of the Coast. My other fear of gamers comes from my summer job after freshman year of college - working at the Red Lion in Seatac. We always had conventions there, which was usually pretty fun and I often got free stuff from satisfied customers. There were two big exceptions to the "fun" conventions: the Gypsy wedding (sorry for the ethnic slur and for the prejudiced thoughts that I now harbor but won't share) and the D&D/LARP convention. Those people (the D&D people) and their costumes, including weapons, were so weird and scary, I dreaded going to work every day. There was one incident where they stole one of those bellboy carts and covered it with their capes and rolled it to the main hotel lobby - then they took off the capes, revealing a naked woman. It was disturbing to say the least (don't know if you've ever seen D&D ladies, but they're not the most attractive people).

It was definitely the most interesting job I've ever had. There were only about 10 normal people in the whole building. Everyone had an addiction to something....substance, gaming, etc. When Pokemon came out they were so rich that their Christmas bonus was basically half of their salary. After break nearly everyone came back with a new car/motorcycle/etc. Of course a year later they had to let go of about 3/4 of the staff but whatever.

That bellman cart story is the most hilarious, typical D&D thing ever. There humor was always on about that level. You know they thought it was super funny and dangerous. I loved my job at the Hyatt because of the weirdo stuff that went on.

I want to know what happened at the Gypsy wedding. You should probably write an update about it because I am so bored.

I asked Brett about Amazing Race and he didn't know for sure, but his educated guess was January.

He also said that he wanted Danny to win So YOu Think You Can Dance because he was "graceful as a gazelle." I almost peed my pants.

He really was graceful as a gazelle. I'm sure that's why Brett wanted him to win. Nothing to do with the fact that he was a hot gay man.
