A little insight into the madness
Look at the Dec. 15 entry again to see the two month old pictures of the monkey now updated without red eyes thanks to my brother in law Jared and his photoshop prowess.
I haven't seen this week's episode of the Amazing Race yet but let me just say about last week-- IT TOTALLY SUCKS that the old folks came in last and deserved to be eliminated and then Phil has to go and say it's a non-elimination round. The old people are so dumb and I am starting to hate them because they think they are so smart and that they have just had bad luck when in fact they have had incredibly good luck. Also Race related I learned that Hayden, the mean "actor" is 4 degrees from me: Mom-Lisa from work-cousin-cousin.
So I was talking to Mom on Sunday as I usually do and I mention to her that I think Elena is a midget after the mother-in-law who came into town on Sunday said she was tiny and none of her 9 kids were that small at 2 months. Her (mom's) response: "oh, well, we do have some little people in our family, like Christine, who is 4'10 or something," so I say my theory about little people starting out as regular sized babies and she says, yeah maybe and then I say so you think she might be a midget too and she says, (imagine minnesota accent) "oh, no, just maybe little." The important lesson from this conversation is SHE DOESN'T THINK IT'S WEIRD THAT I AM AFRAID MY DAUGHTER IS A MIDGET. Even though it's my fear, at least I can recognize it's insane.

oh my gosh that's HILARIOUS! well, not that mom thinks it's ok that you're scared your daughter could be a little person. by the way, why do you think that? i just think it's funny cause i can totally see mom in her minnesota accent saying "oh, no, just maybe little" HAHAHA. is there like a test the doctor can do? because seriously heather, why would she be a little person?

I have to reiterate that your fear that Elena will be a midget is hillarious. Of course, I am no baby-size-expert (I wish I knew some long latinate term for that area of specialization) but I do have a fair ammount of anecdotal information in this regard, given that my family is something of a baby-factory (14th niece or nephew is on the way). Based on that information, I would conclude that various physical traits exhibited in babies (including size (length and girth), hair (color, of course, and texture), and others (even eye-color)) are not necessarily indicators of later childhood or adult traits. For example, my eldest nephew (who is almost 21), was a very large, and rather cute baby/toddler with straight blonde hair. He is now rail thin, fairly awkward-looking (for example, his nose is much larger in relation to the rest of his face than it was as a child), and has brown hair that is the texture of a brillo pad. In short, few of his physical traits as a baby carried over into adulthood.
What all this amounts to is that, as an adult, your daughter may no longer look exactly like Ammon...
Furthermore, the inclusive post-modern in me feels like asking "what is wrong with midgets?" (I guess that is an internally incoherent question, insofar as it isn't p.c. to say "midget")
