Crosspoints, 144x144, SDI, 12 RU....
I was at work until 9:30 this evening working on stuff for us to get a routing switcher at work. I don't recall if I've ever explained what one does, but I may have mentioned back in June or so that we were supposed to get one.
Well, put it simply, a routing switcher is the nervous system of a video production and/or broadcasting facility. It is what all the equipment sends their signals to, and then the router sends those signals wherever else you want. We've never had one and it's made many things difficult, if not impossible to accomplish.
Long story short: After the router being put on hold for a while, it's back on the table. We have a fairly limited amount of time to get it implemented, so I've been putting in extra hours to get it done. When all is said and done, it will allow us to work much more efficiently and provide a lot of expandability to our operations. Essentially, it helps us act more like a full-blown typical TV station.
The subject line? That's just a sampling of router lingo. By the time I'm done with this I'll know more about routers than I ever wanted to.
