    Current mood:stir crazy

    The Book Survey
I have a fever and I have too many doctor appointments in my life.
A good sick day activity: quizzie. Brought to you from blurty's own "dekker."

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?
I prefer hardback for personal library items, for longevity's sake. But I prefer paperback for commuting and carrying.

Online purchase or brick and mortar?
Really either--the end result is the same. But I like making a personal connection with the book whilst it is still on the shelf, waiting for someone to love it and take it home. Hehe.

    Barnes & Noble or Borders?
I'm not sure. They're so similar. In Boston, we have other options ;-)

    Bookmark or dog-ear?
Bookmark. Though I do dog-ear pages sometimes these days. I try to un-dog-ear them when I finally mark the page properly, because it messes up the flow of the pages if you leave some folded.

    Mark or not mark?
I like to mark and to receive books with marks.

Alphabetise by author or alphabetize by title or random?
I don't have a lot of book-space in my room right now. Well, not relative to my books. So I tend to group them loosely by category and author.

    Keep, throw away, or sell?
Who throws away books? I keep most, sell a few (such as certain textbooks).

    Keep dustjacket or toss it?
I keep them. My books are vulnerable, like socks. But dustjackets are kind of annoying in general; they keep sliding off like those kids with the oversized pants.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?
    With I guess.

    Short story or novel?
I've been reading more short stories these days. Maybe it's just easier to read tidbits on the T than Dostoevsky.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I try to make it to breaks, but that doesn't always happen. Everyone hates reading the same sentence over three times because your mind already peaced out and went to sleep.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
I'd rather read my Logic textbook.
Eli: Now, any of you can try to write a bestselling Logic textbook. Many have tried. And all of them have failed except for Copi. Copi probably made millions of dollars from all the editions of this best-selling texbook. But guess what? Copi doesn't get any of it now. Because Copi is dead. (I can't remember his monologue exactly, but it went something like that. My philosophy prof is a very strange and entertaining person.)

    Buy or Borrow?
    Buy. But libraries are good.

    New or used?
    Both

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendation or browse?
I guess I prefer recommendations, because it's more fun if you can discuss. But I browse a lot.

    Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
I don't know. It depends on the book and what it is doing.

Morning reading, afternoon reading or night time reading?
Usually reading happens in the morning or evening, probably because of work schedule. I have a tendency to do energetic things in the morning (clean or read something dense or write) if left to my own devices. I prefer to be outside or moving around in the afternoon. In the evening I like to be curled up somewhere and am more in "story" mode.

    Standalone or series?
    Standalone

    Favorite series?
I am having trouble coming up with a series that I really enjoyed. Does Georger MacDonald's fiction count? Probably not, since the stories are separate entities even when published together.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
I think if I liked such a book, then someone's heard of it as a result. I'm a book blabber.

Favorite books read this past year?
    Lament For a Son, Wolterstorff
Handbook of Christian Apologetics, Kreeft and Tacelli
    To the Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf

    Favorite book of all time?
    This question's too hard!
