Emma Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree
    TWEEN

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm definitely getting some "Newbery vibes" from Lauren Tarshis' debut novel. Emma Jean is not your typical middle schooler, and that's more than fine with her! Most notably, she tells it like it is and she cares more about helping other people than trying to be liked or to become popular. Even though she has a higher than average IQ, nevertheless, she seems to lack some common sense (which makes her more real to me, I suppose, based on some of the people I knew growing up!). I won't get into too much detail about whom she is trying to help, or how she thinks she is helping, but let's just say that some of the ways she "helps" may cause more trouble than intended. A funny story with an uplifting ending.

    Happy Reading!
