    It's a girl!
    Here she is...My little '97 Honda Life.

    Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

    She's a sweet little car. I think she's a really happy car, and that she had a good owner before me. No name yet, but I still dig her quite a bit.

    Anyway, now I that I have wheels, I feel a lot freer somehow. No more relying on the bus to get me home on Toyohama/Toyoshima days. All four months of dusty driving experience are being put to the test!

    Had a pleasant visit with two Kure JETs who started the program when I did. Their names are Beth and Vicky, and they come from Australia and Ireland, respectively. About three weeks ago, Vicky emailed me and asked if she and Beth could come for a visit one weekend. I was so flattered that they wanted to see me and see where I lived. We actually haven't had a meeting with all the BOE JETs since the beginning of August, so I hadn't actually seen any of the Kure kids for a while. So Vicky and Beth came to see me instead. ^__^

    From the crappy bus trip and ferry riding and such, they began to understand the appeal of just staying where I was most of the time. ^^; They came home with me after a conference on Friday, and I drove them around my stomping grounds without managing to physically damage any of us. We even went the extra four minutes over one of the (many) bridges connecting my island to its brothers and sisters, and checked out the view from nearby Ehime-ken in Shikoku. It was nice to have guests. It was nice to cook for more than one person and watch Sixteen Candles together.

Yep. Your car definitely needs a name now! So, it's a girl?

I'm gla the visit went well. You seemed excited about it, and that was nice to hear in your voice. Well, definitely nicer than crappy news I had been hearing from you. Not that you can't bitch or anything. Just that I was glad to hear about some good things that were happening to you.

Yeah, we had a really great time. ^^ They were noticing stuff about my island (the architecture of the Japanese-style houses, the mountains and the greenery and the view of the sea) that I'd never really paid attention to. I guess it's a big difference coming from the city where the mountains are much, much further away.

They seemed to appreciate my town (something I'm a bit sensitive about), and I was happy that they weren't like other JETs in my town who've yet to visit but persist in asking questions like, "How do you live there?" And, "What is there to do?" And, "I'm a narrow-minded cow who can't fathom what could be charming and great about a small town." Oops. That last one was me putting words in their mouth. I don't see the Kure kids enough. I should go into town more...but that would mean giving up my weekend to Kure when I could stay in my pajamas and read books in bed all weekend. Ahh, decisions, decisions.

I did have a great time with my Kure compatriots! Movies are just better when you watch them with someone else. Even if you've see the movie dozens of times before, it's like watching it with new eyes. People's reactions are so different. It's fun. ^__^

Thanks for helping to think up a name for her! I'm still clueless, but I know more about her personality now, though. I think that she's very experienced and isn't afraid to tell me what I should refrain from trying in the car. I kind of learn proper driving protocol from her responses. I try not to push her too hard (because I'm rather afraid of speed when the road isn't straight and old people are shuffling hither and thither alongside me), but sometimes I do stuff that she doesn't like and she let's me know. ^^;

Hmm...maybe a name that sweet but strong-sounding. What do you think of when you hear the words, "sweet and strong(-willed)"?

I hope that I can find a nice car like my little Life when I return to the English-speaking world one day. I'll never forget my time riding in this car, I don't think. ^^

She definitely needs a name, a name that is fitting, a name that is perfect....

How does she run? how does she react to you driving?

I'm glad you got to hang out and cook for more than one person! they must have had such cool accents! Australians and Irish!!

Weee!
