Leave it to Malfoy to try and get Hagrid fired...
I've been spending the last few weeks researching older historical trials held against magical creatures that had either committed property or bodily harm. Of course, with someone like Malfoy, it wasn't surprising at all that he had the issue (in case no one remembers, a Hippogriff acttacked him; it was his fault for provoking it though, to be honest) brought to the Ministry of Magic. Hagrid's in enough trouble of course, even though Malfoy recovered in a matter of minutes, but the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures might have to put down Buckbeak if Hagrid can't convince them at his upcoming hearing that Buckbeak was innocent of the attack. Of course, with the Malfoy family involved, and they being a particularly influential family and well-connected, I wouldn't be surprised if they hearing was skewed in their favour. And everything I've read in these books at the library haven't helped at all; the one laying the charges usually wins the trial (and with good reason most of the time too) and some of the punishments are particularly gruesome. Horribly detailed and graphic, some of those pictures are.

At the same time, I've been trying to balance our my time researching information for the trial, studying for the upcoming exams and keeping up with our regular assignments. And while I don't mean to be rude, that odd new student can be terribly annoying sometimes. Perhaps I'm being too harsh on her, but I honestly don't enjoy having someone coming up to me while I'm trying to finish a two-thousand-five-hundred-and-fifty word essay on the historical uses of Cheering Charms and practically demanding that I be her friend. And with all the odd incidents that have been happening during the last few year, and this year in particular, I can't help but be a little wary of her. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. But there's definitely something off with her.
