I gave my notice to Maggiano's, and soon will go to work at an Italian restaurant that is the opposite: No bussers or anyone to tip out to, no white shirt and tie, no managers, no pre-shift meeting, no doubles, no hours of SIDE WORK. I went to interview last week; one of the current servers was doing the interview. He is not the typical money-obsessed server I've come to know, and he completely understands what I mean about not acting phoney to customers. Then, Saturday John and I went to the Brattle theater to see this really great Thai movie (Last Life in the Universe, see it dudes) and that guy was working there! So I knew right away it was all coming together. He told me he wants to hire me, and after the movie we planned the day I will go train.
There is a certain amount of sadness about leaving, and there will be some people I miss (esp. Diego, who always asks me what words mean and is always singing "We're not making love anymore").
Not so glad to start another restaurant gig, but it will only be two nights a week. The new place is really close, I can walk there, and the menu looks good! Now I just have to find out my eating situation there...
