Reports surface about mushy halibut
KENAI, Alaska (AP) — More sport fishermen are reporting catching mushy halibut.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game says it is receiving more reports from sport fishermen that the halibut they are catching are mushy.
The Peninsula Clarion says reports of mushy halibut are coming in fairly regularly from all over Cook Inlet. The reports have prompted officials to conduct a round of tests to determine what might be causing the problem.
The fish are safe to eat and taste fine. However, officials say the flesh has a jelly-like consistency and when cooked falls apart into something that looks like oatmeal. (Peninsula Clarion)
