Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

*room is full of clothes, books, scrolls, pipes, mysterious packages, vials of honey, rare bird feathers, and not a few vessels of elven brandy*

*Gandalf is packing in the middle of it, humming to himself delightedly*

I will be glad to visit Minas Tirith again. It will be nice to have a change of scene. Perhaps it will be friendlier there. *pointed glance in direction of samgamgee, through walls and across town*

*pens a note and ties it to an owl* Boromir, I would be most happy to join you in a pint or two at the inn you mentioned. In fact, I think I'll bring a bottle or two of the Second Age's finest to share with you.

Dear Gandalf,

I am most relieved to hear you are soon to be expected in Gondor. There is great disrest here, I have heard talk of revolution and an overthrow of the present authority.

Perhaps you can also clarify the validity of rumours regarding Lord Aragorn?

Yours,

Lady Eowyn

Dear Eowyn,

My dear girl! The miles between us are too cruel! I shall be most glad to see you again.

Regarding Aragorn, which rumors do you refer to? (There have been many, of late).

Gandalf,

Some are so foul that a Lady would hate to repeat them, but I shall endevour...

He has been disowned and made an enemy of Rivendell, Mirkwood and Lorien.

He has irrepairably damaged his relationship with Lord Boromir.

He has called off the Coronation.

He has been hearing voices and believes his horse is speaking to him.

He believes his brother Elladan is attempting to destroy him.

He has had a complete breakdown and will not remove himself from bed for even the most basic of bodily functions.

His only friend is now a... BALROG!

Am most concerned.

Eowyn

To the Alabaster Lady of Rohan, who puts swans to shame,

My dear lady! I am so sorry for inviting you to repeat such foul rumors. I am sorrier that you have had to endure them day after day, not knowing the veracity of them.

I fear I do not know the truth of many of them myself. Such facts as I have been able to acquire suggest that Aragorn has indeed suffered a falling out with his fosterers. I daresay there are growing pains involved, and that time heals wounds, even wounds of the heart.

Symptoms of paranoia such as these are most probably merely a side reaction to recent circumstances and will play out. Fear not, gentle maid! All will be well!

-G

P.S. What's wrong with being friends with a B-lrog? o.O

Dear Gandalf,

I hope your words prove as wise as your record indicates that should.

Will be there as soon as I can steal borrow a horse. Thank you very much for your kind wishes. You are ever in my thoughts. Hope to see you there.

Gandalf,

How is Shadowfax? Doing well I hope?

I am sorry old friend, but I am no longer in Gondor. Certain affairs of state have carried me back home to Rohan. My sister, Éowyn is still in Gondor and I hope to be able to join here there once everything is cleared up here.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

With affection,
Éomer

Shadowfax is well, of course. He dislikes being locked in, however, and prefers to wander the vales of Rivendell freely. I would never dream of keeping him corralled against his will. He will, hopefully, carry me southward soon.

It was my understanding that you were in Rohan. I had hoped you might take a little time to visit your neighbor for the coronation. Now, what with the uncertainty of the event, I suppose you have no reason to come. I wish you and your country the best.

Gandalf,

Even with the uncertainty of the event I would like to return. Gondor is beautiful and it has many things (and people) to tempt and tease the palate.

I do think you will enjoy yourself there.

In any case, I hope to return there soon. I cannot leave my sister to travel back to Rohan or anyone else without a proper escort so even if the coronation did not go through I would have to return there so I could bring her safely home.

Dear Gandalf,
That sounds absolutely splendid. Do you have any idea what time you will be arriving in Minas Tirith? Your usual wing of the Castle is ready for you, just how you like it. *wink* I look forward to seeing you soon!
Boromir.

*comes rushing down the stairs, almost coliding with you*

Gandalf! How good to see you! *pounds your shoulder happily* Perhaps you could help me with a bit of a problem? It seems that I've, um, annoyed Faramir by wanting to house Arrie's horse in his room, b.c that would make him happy, so I've been sort of banished from my brother's sight for a while. Perhaps you'd care to help me out by going into the city for a drink?

*frowns* Horse? Faramir? Oh, dear. Perhaps we HAD best have a drink.

How about that inn you were telling me about?

*wheels them both outside*

Oh, Valar, please, yes, something STRONG. With a lot of refills.

Thank you, Gandalf, you are a lifesaver.
