Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

have ordered new package of pills. am eagerly awaiting their arrival.

found a book in Rivendell's Library t'other day on Ancient Elvish Poetry. have got to page three. v. dull. am glad that Age is over.

spent the afternoon polishing Glamdring, as it had developed a 32nd of an inch of rust along one edge. they simply do not make them like they used to. am v. disappointed. want my money back, but have misplaced my receipt. damn bureacracy!

Glorfindel, we really must get together sometime and discuss B-lrog slaying.

Forgive me if I do not recall you off the bat.... I have met terribly many people during my stay(s) on Middle Earth. *smiles uncertainly* How have I insulted you?

Well.

Some of early Elvish Poetry was decent. *offers cold toast*

It has been many, many years since I have had cold toast.

What is your name, incidentally?

You may call me Mithrandir.

Of course, Mithrandir, of course! I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'm always willing to make time for you! Why don't we have lunch together tomorrow? Discuss Balrogs and the slaying of.

The slaying of, of course, being rather more difficult when there is a great host of them. Unfortunately, I do not have a Balrog's death to my name.

Hello, my name is ...Lómelinwë. I have recently been released after being captured by barbaric half-orc abominations in the High Pass. I have heard you are looking for guards?

I have some skill in fighting, although my usual profession is that of a bard and poet. What say you?

Lómelinwë, eh? I'm very pleased to meet you! You were captured by orcs? Why did they release you? And yes, with our new and expanded budget, we are looking to recruit new guards for Imladris. I'll need you to fill out some forms, undergo a bit of an evaluation of your skills, oh, and some psychological tests... I'll also need to see three forms of ID. *smiles* I'm sure that's no problem, right? I look forward to having you on board, Lómelinwë!

Several of them had silver hair. Apparently they wanted to try me for slaying one of their number in the pass, after I had already been ambushed by their kind twice. Apparently, this land is still slightly sane, as they were unable to find any law that forbid killing an orc. Still, to allow servants of Morgoth into an Elven nation!

And...I am sorry, what is this ID? I have been long in the East, you must understand.

You've been in the East, eh? Hmm. *suspicious look* ID is identification... to prove you are who you say you are, you know. There has recently been some... concerns as to the security of the Last Homely House and over infiltrators. Just need to make sure of you, you know. Oh, and if you have any references from previous positions you've held, that would be good, too.

As for the orcs, well, some of them are related. Er, yeah. Um, those ones aren't servants of Morgoth, really.

Ah. This is indeed a strange place. *thinks briefly* Well, when I came into the pass, I had a shirt of mirthril mail that had been given to me by a dwarf-lord in Rhûn in exchange for my service as a singer in his court - it may seem a very extravagant gift, but I had also written several songs in his honor. It is inscribed in Dwarfish that it is a gift from the king to me. However, it was confiscated by the Orcs out of spite when the courts refused to try me. Actually, the name Lómelinwë was given to me when I was studying in the east with a singer by the name of Daeron. You may have heard of him. Since he has now passed, I use it in his honor. Ah...let me think.

I also have several ballads published under this my name...

I am not a servant of Morgoth-- or of anyone else! Though I obey my mother and grandmama.
