Finally got my plane tickets for China. I had to shop around for a week. Whatever happened to all those great deals online? Orbitz.com and priceline.com and all those other pop-up-add places tried to convince me that my cheapest option was in the $1250 range. So I called Air China directly, and they directly informed me they no longer sell tickets directly, and directed me to go directly through a travel agent.
This is where I directly became ultra-cool.
I started talking to the airline rep in Chinese, asking why the prices are so high and stuff. After a short conversation about what I was doing in China, he gave me a number to call, and said I should ask for a guy named "Sam" (I totally swear to all deities that this is true) and explain to him that Harris told me to call him. So I did all that, and zippidy doo da, my open-ended ticked, departure date August 25 (only 4 weeks- man) for $860, should be arriving at my house on Tuesday next week.
It's all about the guanxi. Networking is everything.
