    Current mood: peaceful

Tonight I heard someone sing the 23rd Psalm. It occurred to me that although my beliefs about God seem to be similar to the beliefs that David expresses in the psalm, I have never felt an affinity for this particular passage. Thinking about it, I realized that it was the language. So I started thinking about how I would express these ideas and this is what I came up with .

God is my Liege*, there is nothing I lack.
He gives me a safe place to rest.
He feeds and nourishes my body.
    He restores my soul.
He maps out the paths of virtue according to His will.

Even when I have to go into dangerous place,
I am without fear, for You are beside me.
Your justice and your mercy is a comfort to me.
You prepare a feast and make me the guest of honor regardless of who is present.
You fill my life with abundance.

Without a doubt, your grace and love will be with me throught my life.
And I will be in Your Presence forever.

I like what you wrote, but it would help to see the original text for comparison. I do not remember it well enough to recognize where you have made changes.

As a minor editor's note, you should not switch from third person to second person between stanzas.

Since you have a dozen bibles in your house and the ability to access scripture on the internet, you can look it up yourself.

As to the editors note. . . .the original also switches voice (in all the translations I've read)and I was following the convention it uses. I never noticed it before.

Thanks for your soulful insight on this Psalm. It indicates that you're well connected with our Lord and that both of you enjoy a fruitful dialogue with each other. Obviously you are also a very good listener. How else could you have translated this from within your heart so well?

Beautiful. I always felt a connection with that Psalm and I would mumble it quietly when I felt scared as a child. But, if this is possible, it is more beautiful rephrased from someone else's soul.

That's my favorite part.
