The meat slicer whackamoled my shit
Work wasn't much fun today. When I got there, there were already 2 people working which basically told me I could have stayed home.

Lets back up a bit. Getting to work wasn't much fun either. I woke to freezing rain which had left the roads in a sheet of ice. I couldn't go more than 20 mph for most of the drive and I was nearly late. Then, the whole too many people scheduled left me feeling a bit out of sorts until Jose told me I could do prep. Usually, I try to avoid the meat slicer as it scares the shit out of me but.. since Tyler said he didn't know how to use it, I switched jobs with him and all was going well until I had to clean it.

I'm sure you can see where this is going. I made a few mistakes here, and it cost me. 1) While I was wearing a cut glove, I was only wearing one and, while I usually only clean the machine with the hand with the glove on, for some stupid reason.. I switched hands. 2) I forgot to lower the blade to the lowest position, which prevents any major damage from being done, as it places the blade even with the guard. 3) I was using a towel to clean the blade, and got a bit overconfident.

So, I switched hands and boom, sliced off the pad of my middle finger of my right hand. 10 hours later and it is still bleeding!

Nasty pic is behind the cut.. lol

So, my question is.. SHOULD I go to the ER? I know there isn't much I can do about it, and I realize the pic isn't that good of quality but.. 10 hours is a long time to go on bleeding. Granted, it isn't bleeding that bad, but it is still bleeding.. and man does it hurt. So, do I go or do I do what I said I would which is go to the ER tomorrow if it is still bleeding? I know that there is little they can do for it, due to the nature of the cut, but the bleeding is really starting to worry me.

I have neosporin on it, and have it wrapped in gauze.. and had a splint on it while I was out. I figure that is about all any doctor/nurse would do for me anyway so I didn't need to go.. So, should I go or not?

I'm wondering if it is needed as it was a meat slicer. There isn't a chance of any rust being present at all.. hrm

Me thinks you should go have it looked at and it definitely couldn't hurt to get a tetnus(sp?) shot either.
I hope it's feeling better soon.
Hugs, Jon

If all goes well, I'll have it looked at by my doctor on Monday.. that is IF all goes well. If it doesn't I'll head to the ER tomorrow.

Make sure you keep it clean and keep using the neosporin. :)
The shot can wait that long. A few years back I stuck my hand with a nail, and the ER told me it could wait for Monday and I could go to our health service at work. :)

I've had it totally wrapped since it happened.. this, of course, after washing it out thoroughly. Since that point, it's been covered in pain relieving neosporin, gauze and that tape type deal that is flexible but adheres to itself. When I go out, I put a splint over it just so I don't bang it against something and start the bleeding again.

Sounds like you have it covered until you can have it looked at. :)

Looks to me like it is worse. Not sure if I should just leave it uncovered for the night or what.
