OK guys. I'm going to treat myself, come pay day, but I can't decide what to actually get.
THIS or THESE!
Laptop (not necessarily the one linked - needs more research) Pros: ~ I've wanted one for ages; ~ It'd come in handy for travelling (my ickle DVD player whirs very loudly, and just looks a bit pathetic next to everyone else on the train with lovely shiny laptops!); ~ Pretty! ~ Surfing the net, sitting on the couch! ~ My current PC is a desktop, and is about four and a half years old.
Cons: ~ It could be anywhere from a bit more expensive to much more expensive than the shoes, once all the extras have been chosen; ~ I have a pretty decent functioning desktop already that's only four and a half years old (I'm not sure if that's old for a PC or not!).
Shoes Pros: ~ Pretty! ~ I'll make people so jealous! ~ Cheaper than the laptop.
Cons: ~ OH, THE GUILT! I've never spent that much on a pair of shoes in my life, and the thought of it makes me break out into a sweat! It's SUCH an extravagance. At least most people would agree that a laptop is worth a few hundred. Few people would say that about a pair of shoes. ~ 9cm heels. I think I've established that I'm not very good at wearing heels any more. ~ Slingbacks and me haven't exactly gotten on in the past. ~ Seriously guys, the guilt!
Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? Admonitions for even considering spending that much on a pair of shoes?

The laptop would be more practical, but is also the kind of thing that is run of the mill - you'd save £200 a month and then have it in 2 months or something. It probably wouldn't feel like a treat.
The shoes are expensive yes, but they're designer, and would certainly feel like a treat - unless the guilt spoiled them. I can understand why you feel they're too much, but consider this:
a) you work damn hard and are good at your job b) have you got enough to cover your rent, bills, food, transport? c) have you put a little of your salary in the bank this month?
If you've covered all your expenses and set aside a little for emergencies (or stuff like needing a new coat or something), then go ahead and get the shoes if they make you happy. Maybe you feel guilty because you think that at our age, we should be saving for a house or something. So I'll point out what I always reason when I'm in the situation - the reason I'm not buying a house is because I'd need a mortgage at 9 times my salary. £300 is NOT even close to being the thing stopping me from getting a house. But it will make me feel happy, confident and attractive (or whatever you'd feel with those shoes on).
If you're looking for advice on which one of the two to get, I'm out. I'm not a Windows fan these days, and I'm not really a shoe person ;-)
But enjoy whatever you get! x(Reply to this) (Thread) |
